Mark Volpe, the president and chief executive of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, said that he soon plans to ask his board to approve a plan to hold performances this summer at Tanglewood, the companys outdoor campus in Western Massachusetts.
After Mugar took his final bow on July 4, he met with Noltemy and Mark Volpe, managing director of BSO Inc. On July 5, they had a handshake agreement that the Pops would take the reins of a Boston tradition.

BSO to host open house to celebrate new music director
Nelsons will lead the BSO and Tanglewood Festival Chorus in a free performance during the open house Sunday afternoon at Symphony Hall. He will also take questions from the audience, along with BSO Managing Director Mark Volpe.

After string of cancellations, Boston maestro James Levine resigns
The BSO's managing director, Mark Volpe, said in a statement that the orchestra would work with Levine to define "a new role where he can focus solely on the music and defining artistically stimulating projects that would be meaningful to him and the orchestra."

Levine stepping down as Boston Symphony Orchestra music director
Levine will officially step down in September after the BSOs Tanglewood season. The BSO will immediately begin a search for his successor. BSO managing director Mark Volpe said in an interview that there is no timetable for hiring a new music director.
