Abstract:

The cushion back carpet cutting tool is a hand tool for cutting foam back carpeting that creates a clean straight cut through the carpeting so that a smooth unnoticeable seam results where two pieces of carpet material are brought together. The tool includes a leading edge on the center plate that opens the adjacent rows of tufts in the carpeting, three blades for cutting the carpeting between adjacent rows either close to the right row of tufts, left row of tufts or midway between the tufts, three plates that retain the blades and an adjustable retainer system for the blades, and a handle. The leading edge has an angle of less than 90 degrees from the horizontal and is rounded in shape to prevent loop or woven carpeting from catching on the tool, and also to keep the tool from jumping out of the row where the cut is being made. The blades are kept in place at an angle of between 15 to 25 degrees from the bottom edge of the tool, which results in a smoother cut being made in the carpeting. The amount that the blades extend downward is adjustable to accommodate different thicknesses of carpeting.

Abstract:

A drive wheel roller disengages a drive wheel on a device from the drive axle connected directly to a motor, such that the drive wheel can spin freely to move the device when the motor is not on. The axle has an aperture which aligns with an aperture on the hub of the drive wheel. When the pin is in place the drive axle and the wheel turn in unison. When the pin is removed the wheel can spin freely on a bearing located between the wheel and the axle. A screw cap locks the wheel on the axle.

Abstract:

An angled shank blade for a carpet or tile stripping machine with a flat blade for engaging the surface of a floor. A shank attached to the blade at an angle for receiving the weight of the floor stripping machine and keeping the blade parallel to the floor. The blade has a carbide insert for long lasting skiving of material from the floor. The carbide tip is easily replaced to keep the leading edge sharp. Abstract:

A pivoting twin roller for feeding a material to a sewing machine is disclosed. The twin rollers grip the material with serrated rollers, which rotate at the same rate for uniformly moving the material relative the sewing machine. The twin rollers press down on the material with equal force due to the central pivot point, which improves the feed of the material. The pivoting twin rollers also allow for automatic feeding of material to the sewing machine. A spring loading on the housing for the pivoting twin rollers applies downward pressure on the material being sewn for a sure grip thereon. The downward pressure also insures that the rollers will press down with equal force on uneven height materials since the pivot adjusts the height of the rollers to the height of the materials and thus prevents floating which can lead to jamming of the sewing machine.

A portable sewing machine powered by a battery can be used for carpet binding and other tasks. A pod having a motor and a battery are releasably attached to the side of the sewing machine and can be used on several different sewing machines such that only one pod need be purchased. The battery can be plugged into a plug on the pod to use a different battery while the first battery is being recharged. The battery-powered sewing machine can be on wheels for running on the floor for carpet binding, or it can be used in a stationary position. The portable sewing machine eliminates cords, which limit its use in carpet binding applications. The battery-powered sewing machine can operate in environments where no electricity is available such as in buildings under construction or sailboats needing sail repairs.

Abstract:

A combined floor edger and grinder having a grinding disk which can be adjusted from engaging the floor while flat to engaging the floor along a front, back or side edge of the disk, depending on the height adjustment of the wheels on either side of the frame. The wheels, shroud and handle can also be adjustable relative to the frame for moving the frame straight back and forth or at an angle such that with the disk adjusted to engage the floor on one side of the frame the wheels and handle can be adjusted such that they are angled with respect to a wall for use as an edger whereby a user can push the device along the edge of a wall in a straight line while edging. The shroud and disk sizes may be easily changed for different jobs. The shroud can be open or close ended.
