Abstract:

Method, system, and computer-readable storage medium for flattening 3D patches of a 3D graphics model. For each vertex in each polygon of a plurality of polygons of a 3D patch from a 3D graphics model, a vector is determined from a seed point of the 3D patch to the vertex. An axis in a plane of the polygon that includes the seed point and is perpendicular to the vector is determined, and the vector rotated around the axis until the vector is in the plane of the polygon to generate a corresponding 2D vertex at the endpoint of the rotated vector in the plane. The determining a vector, determining an axis, and rotating the vector for each vertex in each polygon of the 3D patch generates a 2D patch of co-planar polygons corresponding to the polygons of the 3D patch, which is stored for use in a computer graphics application.

A method, system, and computer-readable storage medium for using a two dimensional image adjustment operations to modify a three dimensional object. A first representation of a three dimensional model may be rendered using three dimensional rendering effects. A second representation of the model may be rendered without using the three dimensional rendering effects. The first representation may be displayed. Input may be received to apply an image adjustment operation to the first representation. The image adjustment operation may be applied to the second representation. At least a portion of the first representation may be re-rendered using the three dimensional rendering effects. The modified first representation may be displayed.

A method, system, and computer-readable storage medium are disclosed for distortion-based mask generation. A respective distortion metric may be determined at each location of a plurality of locations in a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional object. The two-dimensional representation may be based on a view of the three-dimensional object. Each respective distortion metric may indicate a degree of distortion in a mapping between the respective location in the two-dimensional representation and a corresponding location in a surface texture of the three-dimensional object. The visual representation of the respective distortion metric at one or more of the plurality of locations may be displayed.

Abstract:

Techniques for creating a mirror symmetric image using a curvilinear or non-linear axis of symmetry (symmetry axis) in 2-D or 3-D space. For each of a set of sample points defining an image, a respective tangent line associated with a sample point is determined with respect to the curvilinear axis of symmetry. A linear paint reflection operation is then performed with respect to the current sample point and the respective tangent line to generate a respective symmetry point. The operation is performed for each sample point such that an aggregate reflection is performed for all sample points to generate a reflected image around the curvilinear path.
