Abstract:
A novel class of intermediates from which a variety of uronic acid nucleosides can be produced, said class being represented by the following formula: ##SPC1## Where R. sub. 1 and R. sub. 2 are lower alkyl radicals having one to six carbon atoms, or phenyl radicals; R. sub. 3 is a lower alkyl radical having one to four carbon atoms; and the wavy line at the 5' position indicates both the 5'-D-allo and 5'-L-talo epimers. A process for producing these intermediates is described. A process for converting these intermediates to uronic acid nucleosides having the following formula: ##SPC2## Where B is a pyrimidine or purine base, is also described. Novel uronic acid nucleosides, having structures falling within the general formula given above, are identified.
