Abstract:
High clarity optical and safety glass laminate interlayer films and optical laminates are described. The films and their laminates comprise very low density polyethylene and/or its copolymers, preferably polymerized with metallocene catalysts, and modified with additives, such as coupling agents, clarifying or nucleation agents, UV-light absorbers, pigment or color concentrate, and IR-light blockers. The very low density polyethylene is laminated to EVA film for improved bondability in optical laminates.
An optically transparent glazing measures about 3 to 5 mm in total thickness, and has an interlayer film, the interlayer film comprises at least two polymeric film layers: a core film layer having a modulus of at least 25,000 psi (173 MPa) and a surface film layer having a maximum modulus of 15,000 (104 MPa) at 50 to 10,000 Hz and 20Â C. ; and the glazing is characterized by an acoustical barrier insulating capacity at least equivalent to that of a 3. 85 mm thick monolithic pane of glass. The glazing also has an Articulation Index value of less than 64. 2% at 50 to 10,000 Hz, a sharpness value of less than 150 at 50 to 10,000 Hz, a penetration resistance of at least 9 meters in test method ECE R43, A6 4. 2, and a maximum haze of 4%. The interlayer film has a bending stiffness of at least 0. 01 Pa*m.
A clear multilayer film for coating synthetic environmental surfaces includes an exposed protective layer and an underlying cushioning layer. The exposed layer is primarily a polymer blend of a fluorine substituted olefin polymer, such as polyvinylidene fluoride, with an acrylic polymer. The cushioning layer is of a low modulus polymer selected from among impact modified acrylic polymer, ethylene vinyl acetate polymer and metallocene catalyzed polyethylene and having an elastic modulus below about 30,000 psi (207 MPa). The cushioning layer should be substantially free of all fluorinated polymers. The multilayer film can have an optional additional thermally adhesive layer of a blend of a fluorine substituted olefin polymer with an acrylic polymer. The multi layer film offers superior protection to such substrates as outdoor building siding, vehicle body panels, and signs from stains, weather conditions, and especially impact damage. Ally of the layers can also include fillers and additives adapted to provide a very low gloss appearance.

Abstract:
The present invention is a film formed from an acrylate blend. The preferred blend is a film comprising components (a) and (b), component (a) being an ethylene butyl acrylate copolymer (EBAC) which is less than about 95 percent percent by weight of a total weight of components (a) and (b), wherein the EBAC has a content of acrylate groups from about 8 to about 36 percent by weight of the total weight of the EBAC; and component (b) being an ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer (EMAC) which is greater than about 5 percent by weight of the total weight of components (a) and (b), wherein the EMAC has a content of acrylate groups from about 8 to about 42 percent by weight of the total weight of the EMAC. The invention further includes a process for manufacturing this film for use as an interlayer in laminates comprising the steps of mixing the melt of thermoplastic polymer resins to form an ethylene butyl acrylate/ethylene methyl acrylate blend and forming the ethylene butyl acrylate/ethylene methyl acrylate blend of thermoplastic resins into a film for use as an interlayer in laminates. The invention still further includes a laminate comprising at least two sheets and at least one interlayer, the interlayer(s) being in between the sheets and wherein the interlayer is comprised of the film described above.

Abstract:
An intercrosslinked multilayer polymeric article comprises (A) at least one thermoplastic polymer layer in contact with (B) at least one crosslinkable polymer layer, wherein (A) and (B) are incompatible with each other, and wherein (A) and (B) are secured together by intercrosslinking. Also disclosed is a method for preparing an intercrosslinked polymeric article.
Disclosed is a fire-protection and safety glazing laminate having a haze value less than 4 percent comprising (A) a plurality of high modulus layers laminated with (B) at least one fluoropolymer resin layer wherein (B) resides between (A). The high modulus layers comprise glass, polycarbonate or polyurethane. The fluoropolymer resin layer has a matte finish surface, an embossed finish surface or a combination thereof and is exposed to a corona treatment in an organic gas atmosphere. The high modulus layers are adhered to the fluoropolymer resin layer through a pressure and heat lamination.
A synthetic roofing shingle or tile is provided, in which a core material is formed, of generally less expensive material, and with a skin material provided, disposed thereabout, with the skin material being generally of greater expense and having desirable weather-withstanding qualities.
