Abstract:

In an embodiment, a method determines a three-dimensional model from a plurality of images taken of a geographic region by one or more cameras from different perspectives. The method includes determining, using a first stereo reconstruction technique: (i) a plurality of three-dimensional candidate surface points from the plurality of images, and (ii) which of the images in the plurality of images view each of the plurality of candidate surface points. The method also includes identifying an empty space between each of the plurality of candidate surface points and each camera model for the respective images determined to view the candidate surface point. The method further includes for each of a plurality of pairs of images from the plurality of images, determining, using a second stereo reconstruction technique, a surface estimate for the pair of images. The method also includes merging the surface estimates to identify a final surface.

A camera is disclosed. The camera includes an image sensor and a f-theta lens fixed relative to the image sensor. The f-theta lens is configured to direct object light from a scene onto the image sensor. An optical axis of the f-theta lens is offset from an optical center of the image sensor such that the image sensor is configured to capture a field of view having an angular bias relative to the optical axis of the f-theta lens.

A shock-absorbing package includes a box and a base. The box is configurable to enclose an item and has a box bottom panel. The base has a base bottom panel and defines a recess sized to accommodate a portion of the box including the box bottom panel. The base interfaces with the box in a transport configuration so that the box bottom panel is held separated from the base bottom panel and a volume of air is disposed between the base bottom panel and the box bottom panel. An impact force applied to the base bottom panel generated by dropping the shock-absorbing package onto a surface induces relative movement between the box and the base that expels air from the volume air and decelerates the box at a rate less than a desired maximum deceleration rate.
