Abstract:

Embodiments of the disclosed invention include a system and method for providing end to end quality of service for cellular voice traffic over a data network. For example, in one embodiment, the method includes tagging outgoing cellular traffic at a network interface device with a prioritization marking to produce prioritized data and transmitting the prioritized data directly to an access carrier network associated with providing an access line to the cellular network interface device. The method maintains, at the access carrier network, the prioritization marking of the outgoing cellular traffic for routing the outgoing cellular traffic through the access carrier network. The method hands off the prioritized data directly to a cellular service provider network associated with the cellular device via a directly connected network to network interface.

Abstract:

A system and method for establishing a price for communicating over a communications network may include initiating a bandwidth occupancy query message to at least one network node along a traffic path to which a user is communicating. A highest bandwidth occupancy of the network nodes along the traffic path may be determined. A current price may be computed for a user communicating over the traffic path based on the highest bandwidth occupancy. The user may be notified of the current price for communicating over the traffic path, thereby enabling the user to adjust network usage.

Abstract:

A method for providing multiple uses of printer coversheets comprises providing a printer having a dedicated coversheet tray, a document sheet tray, and a scanning device, and receiving a print command from a user with an associated username. The method includes drawing a coversheet from the dedicated coversheet tray to be positioned adjacent the printed file, the coversheet having a plurality of predetermined username positions and a corresponding plurality of predetermined barcode positions. The method further includes performing a barcode scan of the coversheet, determining at which username position to print the username based on the results of the barcode scan, and printing the username at the next-available username position. The method also includes printing a barcode on the coversheet at the one of the barcode positions which corresponds to the username position at which the username is printed.

Abstract:

A system and method for delivering video content over a network in communication with a subscriber having an associated electronic device is disclosed. A network server is provided and is configured to transmit a plurality of multicast streams of video content over the network. A scheduled start time for the transmission of a first stream of the multicast streams is assigned. A request for the video content is received at a first time, which is after said scheduled start time and the request is the first request for the video content received by the network server after the scheduled start time. The first stream is transmitted over the network only after the request.

Abstract:

A method, apparatus, and computer usable program product for receiving power over Ethernet in a redundant transceiver are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A determination is made in a redundant transceiver if electrical power is available over Ethernet. If power over Ethernet is available, power is received over Ethernet in the redundant transceiver, otherwise the redundant transceiver receives power from an attached power supply. For receiving power over Ethernet, the redundant transceiver remains in communication with the source of power over Ethernet using a wired section of the Ethernet, and the redundant transceiver receives electrical power to operate using the wired section of the Ethernet. The redundant transceiver receives power over Ethernet using a wire that is simultaneously carrying a data signal. When data signal and power are provided on a common wire, the redundant transceiver separates the electrical power from the data signal, uses the electrical power for operating the redundant transceiver, and uses the data signal for performing a function of the redundant transceiver.
