Abstract:

Malicious software is identified in an executable file by identifying malicious structural features, decryption code, and cryptographic functions. A malicious structural feature is identified by comparing a known malicious structural feature to one or more instructions of the executable file. A malicious structural feature is also identified by graphically and statistically comparing windows of bytes or instructions in a section of the executable file. Cryptography is an indicator of malicious software. Decryption code is identified in an executable file by identifying a tight loop around a reversible instruction that writes to random access memory. Cryptographic functions are identified in an executable file be obtaining a known cryptographic function and performing a string comparison of the numeric constants of the known cryptographic function with the executable file.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus is provided for using a distributed multi-path QoS-aware routing scheme that considers basic MANET characteristics to meet transport service requirements of real-time applications and makes use of multiple discovered paths to calculate a next-hop decision. The QoS Routing scheme superimposes distributed neighborhood congestion, neighborhood density, and link stability and delay information over the multiple discovered paths when the next-hop decision is calculated.

Abstract:

A hazardous waste incinerator (100) includes a rotary kiln (120) with a helical flight (250) within. The kiln (120) is fed hazardous waste by either a continuous feed system (164) or a positive feed system (162). The kiln (120) is comprised of six retort sections (202, 202, 204, 206, 208, 210). The combusted waste is separated into ash and recoverable metals. The air flow is counter to the flow of waste through the kiln (120), with exhaust gases vented from the kiln entrance. Fugitive emissions are also contained by shrouds (164, 166) and containment building (160). These exhaust gases pass through the secondary combustor (130) to ensure destruction of any principle organic hazardous constituents. The exhaust gases are then treated in a spray dryer (140) to cool it and neutralize any acidic components. A baghouse (150) then removes any remaining particulate matter before the exhaust exits the stack (156).

Abstract:

Techniques are provided for actively controlling a communications bus to mitigate threats, including cyber-attacks. A methodology implementing the techniques according to an embodiment includes detecting a threat in a message that is being transmitted between nodes on the communications bus. The message comprises one or more message frames and the threat detection is based on analysis of an initial portion of the message frame. The method further includes actively controlling the bus, based on the threat detection, to prevent the remaining portion of the message frame from delivering the threat to one or more of the nodes on the bus. Actively controlling the bus includes isolating nodes from the bus and/or overwriting data in the remaining portion of the message frame to invalidate the message frame or to remove the threat from the message frame.

Abstract:

A Taint Modeling Function (TMF) finds abstract patterns and uses them to automate the malware detection process. TMF involves the process of statically analyzing a sequence of assembly language instructions and abstracting complex relationships among instruction inputs and outputs into a mathematical function containing a set of algebraic expressions. The set of expressions support fully automating semantic pattern detection in binary code. It deterministically generates outputs given inputs determining code block outputs, for given inputs, without executing the code. It detects code patterns automatically to spot bad coding patterns directly from the binary used to detect bugs statically in the entire application space.
