Abstract:

A process for preparing a coated low-fat and fat-free pretzels having a surface area to inner volume ratio of from about 22 inches (8. 66 cm ) to about 40 inches (15. 75 cm ), a pH of about 8 or less, a digestible fat content of less than 3 g per 28 g serving, and a moisture content of from about 1% to about 4%. The large surface area to inner volume ratio permits the use of reduced concentrations of caustic solution and facilitates drying. Coated pretzels are prepared by: (1) applying a warm coating comprising a carbohydrate selected from modified starch, corn syrup solids, maltodextrins, dextrins, and mixtures thereof; water; and preferably flavoring to ready-to-eat pretzels while tumbling; (2) adding sugar and optionally salt to the tumbling pretzels; (3) removing the pretzels from the tumbling device; and (4) drying the pretzels with the products stationary. The pretzels have substantially improved texture, taste and flavor display. Additionally, the color and shiny surface which is characteristic of pretzels is maintained.

Abstract:

A device is described that can be used by surgeons to provide quick and accurate face-lifting maneuvers that minimize the amount of tissue that has to be removed. The device comprises of a hollow undermining shaft with specially designed tip that can safely separate tissue planes and lyse fibrous tissue. Laser light can be delivered down the shaft to heat and cause tissue contraction. Device can also include a temperature sensor that can be used to control laser power. Optionally the device can also use ultrasound or electrosurgical energy to improve tissue lysing.

Abstract:

The human face is efficiently and precisely dissected while radioifrequency energy is applied to controllably release target tissue bonds and alter surrounding tissues in such a fashion that these facial tissues contract and tighten in response to the energy application while automatically excluding vital nerves and vessels. Tightening will be most dramatic in younger patients between 45 and 55 years of age such that the surgeon may not have to cut-out or stretch skin for a desirable effect in most of this population. The device is inserted through only 3 relatively small 1 cm incisions allowing energy to be applied to the upper subcutaneous, lower dermal and platysmal face-lift layers. The procedures take less than 15 minutes following anesthesia and the effects will last for at least several years. The special arrangement of protrusions and recessions on the tip of the instrument allows the surgeon to efficiently force the device through face-lift planes with instantaneous knowledge of the location and progress simply by the âfeelâ of the apparatus. Vibrational energy and optional ultrasonic means will yield speed enhancement and tip debris and char reduction.

Abstract:

A transparent, flexible and deformable face shield that adaptably fits and conforms to the contours of the wearer's face to protect the wearer's eyes, contact lenses, face, etc. from hair spray products or other products containing contaminants.
