Abstract:
Single-stranded oligonucleotide probes complementary to a signature region of Treponema hyodysenteriae (T. hyo) 16S rRNA are useful in distinguishing this pathogenic species of Treponema from closely related, nonpathogenic species. The probes find practical application in diagnosing swine dysentary from clinical samples, such as fecal material. They are also useful in differentiating T. hyo strains based on RFLP analysis.
