Abstract:
Composition for a solid state material, in bulk and in thin film form, that provides relatively high dielectric permittivity that is tunable with variable electrical field bias, relatively low loss tangent and low leakage current for microwave applications. In a first embodiment, the material is Ba Sr Ti M O , where M is a substance or mixture including one or more elements drawn from a group consisting of Ta, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Al, Ga, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Sc and Re, and the indices x and y satisfy 0x1 and 0y1. A preferred choice is M=Ta, V, W, Mo and/or Nb. In a second embodiment, the material is Ba Sr Ti Ta M O , where M is a substance or mixture including one or more trivalent elements drawn from a group consisting of Al, Ga and Cr and the indices x, y and z satisfy 0x+z1 and 0y1.
Method For Estimating Compliance At Points Along A Beam From Bending Measurements
The inherent smoothing in bending stiffness measurement of wood boards as occurs in the machine grading of lumber can mask the effect of knots and other local characteristics affecting structural value. Improved estimates of local (pointwise) stiffness will be useful in decisions about further processing and use of a tested board. Measured compliance is reciprocally related to measured stiffness and is the convolution of local compliance and a “span function”. Span function is specific to the bending span configuration used and can change during measurement of a board. A general procedure for computing span function, which heretofore has been known only for simple bending spans, is disclosed. A Kalman filter uses this and other available information to optimally estimate local compliance from an observed relationship between local compliance and state variables of a state-space model. Method for linear algebraic determination of local compliance also depends on span functions and is disclosed.

Electrochemical Probe For Screening Multiple-Cell Arrays
Novel systems for combinatorially screening an array of electrochemical cells are disclosed. The screening aparatus may comprise a system of electrodes and electrolytes common to each of the members of an electrochemical cell array. An electrochemical probe is used to supply a reactive fluid (or reactive species) to only one of the cells in the array at a time. The probe is configured to address each of the cells of the array individually, and to be chemically isolated from all of the other cells of the array. Thus, the cells of the array that are not being addressed by the probe are in a non-active condition. Such a system is capable of combinatorially screening a library of materials, including catalyst, electrode, and electrolyte materials, wherein each of the members of the library defines one of the cells of the array.

Abstract:
An XML schema is compiled into an annotated automaton encoding, which includes a parsing table for structural information and annotation for type information. The representation is extended to include a mapping from schema types to states in a parsing table. To validate a fragment against a schema type, it is necessary simply to determine the state corresponding to the schema type, and start the validation process from that state. When the process returns to the state, fragment validation has reached successful completion. This approach is more efficient than a general tree representation. Only the data representation of the schema information is handled, making it much easier than manipulating validation parser code generated by a parser generator. In addition, only one representation is needed for schema information for both document and fragment validation. This approach also provides a basis for incremental validation after update.
