Various embodiments reduce disruptions in recorded programming, by automatically recording retransmissions of prior programming. In one embodiment, a recording manager is provided for execution on a receiving device, such as a set-top box. The recording manager detects a disruption in a recorded program. In response, the recording manager automatically records, or schedules a recording of, a later transmission of the same program. Abstract:

Communication signal compensation systems and methods are operable to compensate communication signals communicated to media devices using an agile equalizer over a coaxial cable communication system. An exemplary embodiment receives a first compensation control signal from a first media device, compensates a received first communication signal based upon the first compensation control signal, communicates the first compensated communication signal to the first media device over the first coaxial cable; receives a second compensation control signal from a second media device, compensates a received second communication signal based upon the second compensation control signal, and communicates the second compensated communication signal to the second media device over the second coaxial cable. The first compensation control signal defines compensation for communication signals communicated over a first coaxial cable. The second compensation control signal defines compensation for communication signals communicated to the second media device over a second coaxial cable.

Abstract:

Various embodiments facilitate foreign language instruction. In one embodiment, a foreign language tutor is provided for execution on a receiving device, such as a set-top box. The foreign language tutor facilitates language instruction by enabling a user to view a received program in various languages, even though those languages may not be part of the audio or subtitles of the received program. In particular, the user may view the received program with an audio track in his/her native language and a subtitle track in a foreign language, or vice versa. In addition, the foreign language tutor is configured to obtain and display reference information (e.g., a dictionary definition) for a word of a subtitle track. Various embodiments facilitate antenna peaking, such as by assisting a user in configuring the position and/or orientation of an antenna to improve the quality of a received signal. In one embodiment, an antenna peaking system (“APS”) is provided. The APS includes a receiving device, such as a set-top box, and an antenna peaking assistant. The receiving device determines strength of a signal received by an antenna, and transmits information about the determined signal strength to the antenna peaking assistant. The antenna peaking assistant wirelessly receives the transmitted information, and presents an indication of the signal strength. Abstract:

An RF antenna arrangement has the same or slightly larger footprint as the RF shield for radio chips on a printed circuit board. The apparatus includes a printed circuit board, a digital processor, a radio chip(s), a radio frequency shield, a lid, and an RF antenna arrangement(s). The lid has the same or slightly larger footprint as the RF shield, which enables the lid to fit on the RF shield. The RF antenna is formed as an integral part of the lid. The apparatus also includes an RF transmission coaxial cable(s) having a first end physically and electrically connected to the RF antenna arrangement(s) and the surface of the lid, and a second end electrically coupled to an RF connector. By forming the antenna arrangement(s) from the lid, this invention solves the space constraint problems of antenna placements for wireless device applications. Additionally, this invention is cost-effective and simple to manufacture.

Abstract:

One aspect of the invention provides a device for passive detection of the presence of a drone. The device includes: an antenna; a receiver in communication with the antenna to passively receive wireless signals; and a processor in communication with the receiver and programmed to determine whether a drone is present based on a pattern in the wireless signals emitted from the drone that is correlated with a physical movement of the drone. Another aspect of the invention provides a method for passively detecting the presence of a drone. The method includes: receiving a wireless signal at a device comprising an antenna, a receiver and a processor; and analyzing the wireless signal to determine whether the wireless signal includes a pattern in the signal that is indicative of a physical movement of a drone.

Abstract:

An antenna assembly includes a substrate, a first antenna having a first, second, third, fourth sections, which have different configuration respectively, and a first transmission cable, a second antenna having a fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth sections, which have different configuration respectively, and a second transmission cable. The first and fifth sections extend vertically from a surface of the substrate respectively. The second, third and fourth sections extend in parallel with the first section and extend from its next section. The sixth, seventh, eighth sections extend in parallel with the fifth section and extend from its next section. The first and second transmission cables physically and electrically are connected to the first and second antenna respectively. The second antenna is spaced away from the first antenna a selected distance. The first antenna is arranged having each of its sections extending perpendicular to each of its sections of the second antenna.
