Abstract:

A method and apparatus is provided for forming an electronic assembly whereby an insulating polymer matrix having a plurality of conductor holes is attached to a first substrate wherein the conductor holes align with a corresponding contact array on the first substrate. Subsequently, a flexible, electrically conductive adhesive is provided within the plurality of conductor holes and a solid conductive material, preferably having a high melting temperature, is attached to at least one end thereof. The insulating polymer matrix with the electrically conductive adhesive and the solid conductive material is then cured at a temperature sufficient to completely cure the matrix to completely surround the electrically conductive adhesive, as well as permanently attaching the matrix and conductive adhesive to the first substrate and permanently attaching the solid conductive material to the conductive adhesive. A second substrate may then be attached to the conductive matrix structure secured to the first substrate by providing a low melting temperature attachment means to the solid conductive material attached to the matrix and subsequently reflowing the assembly to form an electronic assembly adapted with the capability of reworkability.

Abstract:

A method is provided for preparing a supported catalyst composed of a structural substrate having an adherent, coherent, coating of a catalytic material which comprises applying on the substrate a dispersion comprising a stabilized colloidal silica solution having dispersed therein a fine metal powder which contains at least two of the metals nickel, chromium, and copper as mixtures or alloys or a combination thereof, and firing the coated substrate in a protective atmosphere at an elevated sintering temperature to form an adherent, coherent, coating.

Abstract:

A process of slurry coating particularly adapted to coatings less than one mil thick wherein a basis metal is coated with particles of a second metal dispersed in a liquid containing alkali-stabilized silica sol as the predominate film forming ingredient. The coated basis metal is dried; the coating is sintered thereon and then is worked. Provided that the silica to metal ratio is within a special range, residual silica in the coating metal does not interfere with working.

Abstract:

A process for protecting metal from the deleterious effects of interaction with atmospheres surrounding said metal which comprises forming on the surface of said metal a continuous film of green chromium oxide and silica, the green chromium oxide portion of said film being directly bonded to the underlying base metal and coacting with the silica to provide a film impervious to gas at temperatures of about 500. degree. C. to about 1300. degree. C. The invention contemplates the product so protected and a composition of matter comprising chromium metal powder dispersed in an alkali-stabilized silica sol particularly adapted to be used in forming the green chromium oxide-silica film on metals.
