Abstract:

An alkylene oxide, e. g. ethylene oxide, is prepared from the corresponding alkylene carbonate, e. g. ethylene carbonate, in the presence of an effective amount of a quaternary arsonium halide. The quaternary arsonium halides are also effective catalysts for the reverse reaction, that is, to form alkylene carbonates from the corresponding epoxide and carbon dioxide.

Abstract:

A method of reducing over-prescribing of antibiotics for acute sinusitis includes identifying a doctor who treats acute sinusitis, devising an alternative treatment package containing an oral nasal decongestant, a topical intranasal moisturizer, and at least one other non-prescription or prescription medication, where at least one treatment incorporated is necessarily dispensed by one of behind-the-counter or by prescription, recommending the alternative treatment package to the doctor by one of (a) providing the doctor with a sample of the alternative treatment package specific for dispensing to a patient who presents with an acute sinusitis infection, or (b) recommending the treatment package to the doctor, whereby the alternative treatment package addresses the dilemma of prescribing a patient-urged antibiotic or referring the patient to procure an over-the-counter medication or combination of over-the-counter medications.

A medication treatment kit and method for treating difficult-to-manage disease that require medication be administered in a particular order for effective treatment where the treatment kit has a container, a first-line treatment medication within the container, and a second-line treatment medication within the container wherein the container is configured to ensure the first-line treatment medication and the second-line treatment medication are administered in proper order where there are no other medications located side-by-side relative to the first-line treatment medication and where only the first-line treatment medication is initially presented and where the first-line treatment medication and the second-line treatment medication are medications to treat a patient having a difficult-to-manage disease.

A method to treat acute sinusitis as an alternative to prescribing an antibiotic or recommending over-the-counter medications by (1) providing a non-antibiotic treatment package containing a pharmacy-dispensed decongestant and an over-the-counter therapeutic agent for acute sinusitis that includes a topical nasal moisturizing means, and further selecting pseudoephedrine that is pharmacy-dispensed wherein the non-antibiotic treatment package is a behind-the-counter treatment package, (2) advising a patient to procure the treatment package to treat acute sinusitis as an alternative to prescribing an antibiotic or recommending over-the-counter procurement of treatment, and (3) pharmacy-dispensing the treatment package to a patient.

Abstract:

A medication treatment kit to ensure administration of medications in proper order for a treatment protocol requiring that the medications be taken in a particular order has a container, a lower tray or drawer located in a lower portion of the container, the lower tray or drawer containing a second-line treatment medication for a particular treatment protocol wherein the second-line treatment medication is not to be taken first by the user, and an upper tray located in an upper portion of the container, the upper tray containing a first-line treatment medication required to be taken first by the user whereby the kit has a configuration that ensures the first-line medication is used first.
