Hickory is owned by Cecilia Dove and her husband, Dr. Robert Scott Dove, a veterinarian who practices in Gainesville. They both are 58. The Westminster Kennel Club also lists Sally Sweatt as one of the owners.

As the first-ever member of the tradition-rich breed to win the coveted Westminster title, Hickory succeeds Sadie the Scottish Terrier, who swept to the Westminster title last year and is now a mother-to-be. Handled by Angela Lloyd of Warrenton, Virginia, and owned by Sally Sweatt of Minneapolis and Ceil and Robert Dove of Flint Hill, Virginia, Hickory's registered name is GCH Foxcliffe Hickory Wind.
