Abstract:

The embodiments described herein relate generally to methods, compositions, articles, and devices associated with layer-by-layer assembly and/or functionalization of carbon-based nanostructures and related structures. In some embodiments, the present invention provides methods for forming an assembly of carbon-based nanostructures on a surface. The carbon-based nanostructure assembly may exhibit enhanced properties, such as improved arrangement of carbon-based nanostructures (e.g., carbon nanotubes) and/or enhanced electronic and/or ionic conductivity and/or other useful features. In some cases, improved properties may be observed due to the attachment of functional groups to the surfaces of carbon-based nanostructures. Using methods described herein, formation of carbon-based nanostructure assemblies may be controlled to produce structures with enhanced properties.

Abstract:

System for establishing a surface shape. The system includes a compliant substrate including the surface and having a reverse side, and a plurality of discrete actuators engaging the reverse side and arranged in a selected pattern to control the surface shape as individual discrete activators are activated. It is preferred that the actuators have multiple discrete stable states of elongation. A particularly preferred embodiment uses actuators that are binary with two stable states of elongation.

Abstract:

Provided herein are implantable and bioresorbable sensors that are specifically designed to be implanted, function for an operational lifetime, and at some point after the operational lifetime to be resorbed by the body in such a manner so as to avoid having to remove any part of the sensor. This avoids a second impact on the patient otherwise associated with sensor removal. The sensors have a substrate and an electronic device supported by the substrate. A barrier layer isolates the electronic device from surrounding environment, including a biofluid, during use. Each of the substrate, electronic device, and barrier layer have a bioresorption rate during use to provide controlled bioresorption such reliable measure of one or more parameters occur over and an operational lifetime, and after a bioresorption lifetime greater than the operational lifetime, no detectable portion of the implantable and bioresorbable sensor remains at an implantation site.

Abstract:

A method and engine for simulating a multi-body system, the method or engine including code for determining collision impulse over a time period for a plurality of colliding bodies in the system. An admissible function is determined from the collision impulse and resembles true contact force from the collision impulse. Complete contact force change during collision is derived from the admissible function.
