Abstract:

A process for inhibiting gel formation of a tablet-form detergent composition upon hydration, the process involving: (a) providing a detergent composition containing a surfactant component selected from the group consisting of an anionic surfactant, a nonionic surfactant, and mixtures thereof; (b) providing an anti-gelling agent selected from the group consisting of an alkyl polyglycoside, a polymeric surfactant, an alkyl sulfate, and mixtures thereof; and (c) mixing the surfactant with the anti-gelling prior to introducing the tablet-form detergent composition into water.

Abstract:

An aqueous laundry detergent composition is comprised of: (1) from about 0.5% by weight to about 30% by weight of a nonionic surfactant of the formula I wherein Ris a monovalent organic radical having from about 6 to about 30 carbon atoms; Ris a divalent alkylene radical having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms; Z is a saccharide residue having 5 or 6 carbon atoms; b is a number having a value from 0 to about 12; a is a number having a value from 1 to about 6; (2) from about 0.5% by weight to about 30% by weight of an anionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of an alkyl ether sulfate having a degree of ethoxylation of from 1 to about 20, a linear alkyl benzene sulfonate, an alpha olefin sulfonate, a secondary alkane sulfonate, and an alkyl sulfate; and (3) from about 2.0% by weight to about 15% by weight of a water soluble builder.
