Abstract:
A method and strategy for transport format combination (TFC) selection and related algorithms in wireless communications. The method provides procedures used by the MAC layer in both the UE and the RNC to schedule data transmission. In the inventive method, each time the maximum transmit power is reached in a time slot, the physical layer will send a notification to the MAC layer, including the time slot number where maximum power was reached. The invention provides a low cost method and algorithm avoiding the need for the MAC to determine the power needed by each TFC in each time slot.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for an absolute or gauge pressure sensor having a backside cavity with a substantially vertical interior sidewall. The backside cavity is formed using a DRIE etch or other MEMS micro-machining technique. One embodiment provides for a diaphragm having a boss manufactured using a two step process that results in a boss thickness that is independent of the thickness of the starting material. Another provides for various shapes to the backside cavity that reduces the likelihood of crystalline fractures while focusing stress on piezoresistive sensing elements. Another provides for a sensitivity adjustment by thinning the insulating and silicon layers that form the sensor diaphragm. A pressure sensor according to the present invention may incorporate one or more of these, or may incorporate other elements discussed herein.

Abstract:
A method for transmitting a packet from a transmitter to a receiver in a wireless communication system begins by building a packet by a transport format combination (TFC) selection process, and the packet is transmitted from the transmitter to the receiver. If the transmitter receives an indication that the packet was not successfully received at the receiver, the packet is retransmitted via a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) procedure. If the HARQ procedure did not successfully transmit the packet, then the packet is retransmitted via a retransmission management (RM) procedure. If the RM procedure did not successfully transmit the packet, then the packet is discarded by the transmitter.

Abstract:
A wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) user equipment (UE) operating in frequency division duplex mode for receiving data over at least one of a plurality of high speed (HS) shared control channels (SCCHs) is disclosed. The UE includes means for monitoring the plurality of HS-SCCHs; means for receiving a packet over at least one of the plurality of HS-SCCHs; and means for determining whether a UE identification is present in the packet and whether a circular redundancy code (CRC) of the packet is correct by processing a mask field. The mask field has an N-bit CRC modulo combined with an N-bit UE identification.
Method And Apparatus For Supporting Voice Over Ip Services Over A Cellular Wireless Communication Network

US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and system for supporting voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services over a wireless communication network are disclosed. Data is encoded at a coding rate specified by a controller for generating a VoIP packet. Among the encoded data, bits sensitive to errors and bits not sensitive to errors are identified and error protection is performed separately by a medium access control layer and/or physical layer. A header of the VoIP packet may be selectively compressed in accordance with an indication from the controller. A user datagram protocol (UDP)-Lite may be used for partial coverage of the sensitive bits. A comfort noise may be generated by a receiving end during a silence period without receiving a comfort noise packet from a transmitting end. If the VoIP packet is not fit into a currently assigned radio resource, the VoIP packet may be fragmented.

Abstract:
A delay applied to a turn-on time for a high side switch in a switch mode power converter prevents oscillation between continuous and discontinuous conduction modes under light load conditions. The delay equalizes turn-on time for a high side switch with respect to continuous and discontinuous modes, so that turn-on time is not treated differently between the different modes. The delay value can be set for be equivalent to a propagation delay through a driver for a low side switch, in addition to a turn-off time for the low side switch. The addition of the delay element tends to maintain the switch mode power converter in a discontinuous mode under light load conditions and avoids oscillation between discontinuous and continuous conduction modes.
