Abstract:

An oil-water separator system diffusing chamber having a diffuser and a baffle with uptake control means. The diffuser includes an attachment portion and a lower portion, with the attachment portion being secured to inlet conduit of the separator system, and with the lower portion being connected to the attachment portion and having flow channeling means. The diffuser has a first side and a second side, with the first side of the diffuser having formed therein a plurality of apertures. The baffle has a first side, a second side and a top edge. The uptake control means includes a plurality of pipes and a pipe restraining means, with each of the pipes having a first end, a second end and a sidewall, with at least one of the pipes having a sidewall with apertures formed therein. The pipes first ends are retained by the pipe restraining means adjacent the baffle first side and the pipes second ends are retained adjacent to the top edge. Preferably the diffuser is of a generally inverted Y-shape with the diffuser first side only having apertures formed therein.

Abstract:

The oil-water separator includes a tank defining an enclosed volume. The oil and water mixture is introduced into the enclosed volume by a length of coalescing pipe that causes the oil to coalesce together and separate from the water. In the enclosed volume, the oil floats on top of the water. To discharge the water from the enclosed volume while retaining the oil, an outlet is provided in a lower region of the enclosed volume that the oil cannot access.

Abstract:

A coalescer media flexible container for retaining coalescer media in the coalescer chamber of an oil-water separator is provided having a flexible enclosure and a randomly arranged, loosely packed coalescing medium. The flexible container has a top surface connected to a bottom surface. The flexible enclosure conforms to the shape of the coalescer chamber in which the flexible enclosure is placed. The flexible enclosure has an interior, with the flexible enclosure fabricated so as to permit liquids to easily pass into the interior of the flexible enclosure where the randomly arranged, loosely packed coalescing medium is retained. The flexible enclosure is preferably fabricated from a group of materials including plastic mesh, reinforced aerated plastic bags, wire mesh, fabric mesh, and netting. Furthermore, in at least one embodiment of the invention, a planar sheetform member is located in the interior of the flexible enclosure directly adjacent the bottom surface. Preferably each flexible enclosure includes a pair of retrieval means. A method of use is also disclosed.
