Abstract:
A precision pumping device for aspirating and dispensing different volumes of fluid is presented. The precision pumping device comprises a housing with integral anti-rotation guides, a stepper motor which drives a fine pitch lead screw, a coupling for linking the piston to the leadscrew, an anti-backlash leadscrew follower, a split hub clamp nut, and a nut for securing the chamber to the housing. A seal is provided which seals around the piston and against the chamber, as is an o-ring that is set into a groove in the chamber and seals against a flange of the seal. The precision pumping device further includes a piston and a chamber for receiving at least a portion of the piston therein. The piston and chamber are of different sizes for aspirating and dispensing different volumes of fluid. The chamber can include a single port or multiple ports.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for aspirating and dispensing a sample fluid. The apparatus includes a dilutor having a port coupled to a first port of a flow through pressure transducer and to a bleed valve. A second port of the flow through pressure transducer is coupled to a first port of a sample probe. The flow through pressure transducer provides transducer signals to a detector circuit. In response to the transducer signals provided thereto, the detector detects the occurrence or non-occurrence of a plurality of different events. The dilutor is operational to aspirate and dispense fluids such as air or liquid samples in order to provide accurate aspiration and dispensation of a sample fluid. The method includes the steps of first aspirating a predetermined amount of air with the dilutor, dispensing air while moving the sample probe towards the fluid sample, measuring the pressure in the probe and using this pressure value as a baseline, monitoring the pressure and detecting when the pressure changes, which is indicative of the probe entering the fluid sample, bleeding the pressure into the atmosphere while returning the dilutor to its home position, aspirating a predetermined amount of fluid to remove dilutor backlash, waiting a predetermined amount of time to finish bleeding the system, then aspirating the fluid sample with the dilutor. With such a method and apparatus, accurate aspirations/dispensations are provided, especially when small volumes are required.

Abstract:
A multi-phase SCR-rectifier controlled arc welding power source having improved operating and internal protection characteristics. The transformer has an improved core and winding design having a built-in internal reactance and a core arrangement which is scrapless and very compact. The output has an adjustable, drooping, volt-ampere curve such that the welding current may be readily preset or adjusted to any desired value. The power source includes an unusually high inductance for a three phase source so as to give a very stable arc with a control circuit having provisions to properly control the conduction angle of the SCR's so as to overcome the disadvantages of such a large choke on starting or short circuiting so as to give optimum welding characteristics. Further the ratio of short circuit current to welding current is controlled and decreases with an increase in the welding current. Protection against damage of the power source is provided in the event of extended short circuit or overload.
