Abstract:

An improved process for the commercial production of malononitrile by the dehydration of cyanoacetamide employs cyanuric chloride in the presence of a catalytic amount of N,N-dimethylformamide and in a polar solvent that is removed by vacuum distillation at a temperature below 100Â C. The N,N-dimethylformamide is added in a molar ratio of 0. 16 moles for each mole of cyanoacetamide present in the starting solution.

Abstract:

What is disclosed is an arrangement of field of label augmented, multi-protocol routing of data packets in a network utilizing fixed length labels that are negotiated between adjacent label routing routers in the network. Portions of each routing label may be assigned by both upstream and downstream routers in the network. Routing labels are used in lieu of conventional address headers to route data packets through said network; and by using routing labels the routers have more flexibility in routing data packets through said network and can use network links between routers that normally carry less traffic.

Abstract:

Erbium doped fiber amplifiers for dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) metro area optical networks may be configured as either high gain amplifiers or power amplifiers. The erbium doped fiber type, length, and pump power level are selected so that the shape of the gain spectra is approximately the same for single channel or multi-channel operation. In one embodiment, the same erbium doped fiber type and length is used for both power amplifiers and high gain amplifiers, reducing manufacturing costs.

Abstract:

We introduce a new all-optical mechanism that can compress the bandwidth of light pulses to absolute zero, and bring them to a complete stop. The mechanism can be realized in a system consisting of a waveguide side-coupled to tunable resonators, which generates a photonic band structure that represents a classical analogue of the Electromagnetically Induced Transparency. The same system can also achieve a time-reversal operation. We demonstrate the operation of such a system by finite-difference time-domain simulations of an implementation in photonic crystals.

Abstract:

A network device for selecting a failover port from a trunk group. The network device includes at least one trunk group that includes a plurality of physical ports. The network device is connected to at least one other network device by at least one of the plurality of physical ports. The network device also includes a medium component associated with one port of the plurality of physical ports for setting the port to a predefined mode when there is a failure at the port, for changing a state associated with the port after a failure at the port and for forwarding an incoming packet to the associated failed port to an ingress module. The network device further include means for retrieving a set of backup ports from a table and hashing means for selecting one backup port from the set of backup ports. The network device also includes means for mirroring the incoming packet, for marking a mirrored copy of the packet and for redirecting a marked mirrored packet to the selected backup port.

A diagnostic apparatus and method for a network includes a sender configuring a time to live (TTL) field in a packet to include an integer value greater than zero, configuring and extending an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) message to include a Media Access Control (MAC) address and an Internet Protocol (IP) address, and transmitting the ICMP message. A switch corresponding to the MAC address is configured to add diagnostic information to the ICMP message. A router corresponding to the IP address is configured to add diagnostic information to the ICMP message. A receiver is configured to receive the packet.

Abstract:

An electrically conductive interconnect is provided through an opening in a dielectric layer, electrically connecting two conductive layers. In one embodiment, the interconnect is formed by ruthenium entirely filling the opening in the dielectric layer. In another embodiment, an adhesion layer of titanium is provided in the opening prior to providing the ruthenium. In using this approach, an aspect ratio (i.e., the ratio of the length of the interconnect to the width thereof) of 20:1 or greater is achievable.
