Abstract:
A cutting assembly for external conduits on a tubing string features a breakaway in the string that can be severed with a tensile force. Preferably each external conduit is run through a cutter housing. Upon severing of the string and applying a pickup force, a tension is applied to each external conduit since the severing of the string happens above all the cutter housings. Each housing cuts at least one conduit and the upper portion of the string brings with it the upper portion of the external conduit while the lower portions of each cut external conduit are retained in the cutter housings that remain downhole below the breakaway. In that manner there are no loose external conduit ends to interfere with and/or disturb subsequent fishing or other wellbore operations.

Abstract:
A cutting assembly for external conduits on a tubing string or main tubular conduit features at least one breakaway in the string that can be severed with a tensile force. Preferably each external conduit is run through a cutter housing that is integral with a passage having threaded end connections. While in some scenarios it is preferred that the main tubular conduit is severed below the cutting assembly thus allowing the cutting apparatus to be retrieved with the upper portions of the cut main tubular conduit and external longitudinal member(s), in other circumstances it may be desired that the main tubular conduit is severed above the cutting assembly allowing the cutting apparatus to be left “downhole” with the lower portion of the cut main tubular conduit and the BHA. The cutter knife assembly chambers or channels can be in banks that are axially spaced using bypass channels to access lower banks. The cutter knife assembly and associated channels can be mirror images so that the external conduits can be cut regardless of where the tubing string is severed and one or more conduits can be cut with a single cutter assembly.

Abstract:
An anchor system includes an anchoring device. The anchoring device is operably connected to at least one of a restriction indicator and a load isolation device each of which include a release member that releases at a selected load in order to ensure setting of the anchor at a desired location. A method is included.

A milling tool which includes a nose cutting portion, a cutting section having a plurality of hardened cutters and a shaft portion. A wear pad is disposed on the cutting section and shaft portion. Upon the shaft portion, the wear pad extends radially outwardly to an engagement diameter that exceeds the maximum cutting diameter of the cutters.

Abstract:
An anchor system including a housing having a radial opening therein. A piston disposed within the housing and translatable therein. A slip in operable communication with the piston such that translation of the piston axially of the housing causes movement of the slip radially of the housing. The slip having a contact face that is nonparallel to an axis of the housing and nonparallel to a surface against which the slip is configured to be set. A method for anchoring a tool is included.

Abstract:
A whipstock features a spiral ramp so that, in a horizontal run, access to a milled window with other tools is not impeded because such tools can traverse onto the ramp and still be directed to the window. Angular rotation of the ramp can be at 180 or more and the pitch is selected to avoid getting the equipment being advanced into a bind. Optionally, a guide track can be configured into the whipstock ramp to help the mill follow the spiral path until the proper orientation is obtained and the track ends to allow separation of the mill from the track. A slot can be provided near the ramp upper end to aid in retrieval operations.

Abstract:
A milling bottom hole assembly (BHA) for use in cutting a full gauge window in a wellbore casing wall, the resultant length of the window being greater than or equal to the whipstock ramp length. A milling BHA is described which includes two shaft portions, a window mill and two bearing mills. The design, which involves strategically placed bearing mills, allows the milling BHA to stay on the whipstock ramp for the entire casing window milling operation and, thereafter, to optimally rapidly build angle and move laterally away from the whipstock and casing, creating a significantly long window which allows for easy passage of directional drilling BHAs through the milled window.
