Abstract:
An antenna apparatus is disclosed for coupling audio frequency signals in relation to one or more vehicle track rails of a transit system for the purpose of determining vehicle occupancy of a given signal block and providing speed coded control signals to a vehicle moving along the track rail in that given signal block. It is desired that each signal block in the transit system track circuit operate with the signal level above a predetermined minimum signal level for reasons of vehicle occupational detection. The antenna apparatus is operative to enable desired adjustment of the signal level in a given signal block and in adjacent signal blocks relative to that given signal block.

Abstract:
A display, a display method and an apparatus are disclosed which produce a summary display depicting function states using discrete state bars centered in one window of a two-window display. The status bars represent the states of functions in a process as determined by status decision trees. The discrete states are emphasized by reference lines which indicate the state of each function. Priority among functions is indicated by vertically ranking the bars with the most important function bar appearing at the top. Each bar includes the name of the function, the state of the function and a procedure name for a procedure which can be used to solve the problem identified. The discrete function state is also indicated by the width of the bar and the bar color. On both sides of each bar, a data quality indicator can appear when the quality of the data is less than the best. The other window on the summary display includes meters for the parameters along the active path of the status tree for the most relevant function as determined by the operator.

Abstract:
A display, a display method and an apparatus are disclosed which produce a summary display depicting function states using discrete state bars centered in one window of a two-window display. The other window on the summary display includes meters for the parameters along the active path of the status tree for the most relevant function as determined by the operator. Each meter indicates not only the current value of the parameter being monitored but the ranges of the different function states as they correspond to the parameter being displayed by the meter. Each meter also carries a data quality indicator. A second level display is provided which depicts the status tree with the active path highlighted allowing the operator to review the decision made by the status tree. The second level display also indicates the values of the parameters used in the decision-making process and includes a miniature version of the summary display that allows the operator to continuously monitor system summary status while reviewing the second level display. A third level display is also provided which depicts detailed information on the sensor values of the parameters being monitored as well as the exact questions being answered by decision trees of the process control monitoring system along with the answers.

Abstract:
An improved train vehicle speed control system is provided for operation in conjunction with train speed control signals and train occupancy indication signals in relation to a train vehicle track system including a plurality of predetermined track circuit signal blocks through which train vehicles pass. It is desired that a control of train vehicle speed be provided in relation to the detected occupancy by a train vehicle of a particular signal block, for maintaining train vehicle occupancy protection requirements and providing desired sequential occupancy control of the train vehicles through each of successive signal blocks through operation of provided protection signals with selected signal blocks behind the detected train vehicle. Spurious pseudo vehicle occupancy in a given signal block is detected and included in the provided train speed control in relation to that given signal block.

Abstract:
The present invention provides expert advice produced by an expert system 16 as a graphic display that indicates to the user a range 64 in which an actual value 62 of a parameter should be kept for safe or efficient operation of the process being monitored. The operator adjusts control points to keep the actual value indicator 62 within the range 64. As the process being monitored moves toward an out-of-normal state, an alarm management system 18 reinforces the graphic advice with general and then more detailed alarm messages that are displayed in priority order in goal and process message slots 114-122. Recommendations, in the form of an action script, for particular actions, based on expert system action indications, are also presented as the system state becomes more unacceptable. The invention also displays an historical perspective of the process parameters being monitored and, through a prediction module 20, provides a prediction of the future state of the process and process parameters.

Abstract:
Disclosed are methods and apparatus for the control of dynamic systems, more particularly complex dynamic systems and especially those systems exhibiting minimum phase behavior. The method utilizes observer theory to estimate the state variables of the system. Based in part upon the estimated values of the state variables, a pseudo or compensated output for the system is generated. This compensated output represents the steady state asymptote of the actual system output without the unstable or transient system responses. The actual outputs are then controlled by controlling the compensated output. According to another embodiment, a bounded output may also be generated from the state variable estimates. This bounded output represents the minimum and/or maximum excursion that the actual output takes in its approach to the steady state value represented by the compensated output. This bounded output is then used to control the system so as to prevent the actual output from crossing any predetermined system limits.
