Abstract:
A collaborative client-server system having performance reliability improvement (PRIM) includes collaboration techniques for sharing server data among two or more servers, each server coupled to one or more client computers. A communication link between a client computer and a server is handed off to another respective one of the two or more servers under a variety of conditions. Hand off conditions include, congestion of the server processing load, congestion of the communication link between the client computer and the server, and loss of data signal integrity between the client computer and the server.

Abstract:
Techniques for modeling living biological systems include receiving constant values for multiple interaction factors w. A set of initial state values is received for state variables that indicate relevant properties of a living biological system. Also received is a set of trial values for perturbation variables that indicate factors that might affect one or more of the relevant properties of the biological system. A temporal change in a value for a particular state variable is determined based on a non-linear transformation of a sum of the trial value for the perturbation that affects the particular state added to a sum of all non-zero values for a product of wand a state variable over all state variables. In some embodiments, measurement-based values are received for a measurable subset of the state variables. Values for the constant interaction factors ware determined based on the measurement-based values.

Abstract:
A dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (“DXA”) system includes an x-ray source assembly comprising a source carriage to move the x-ray source assembly along a scan path, the scan path comprising an active scan portion and a reference measurement portion. A detector assembly including a detector carriage to move the detector assembly with the source assembly and to collect scan data at active scan portions. A support structure supporting the source and detector assemblies. A calibration controller coupled a calibration element having a known x-ray attenuation value and configured position the calibration element between the source and detector assemblies during the reference measurement portion and to remove the calibration element from between the source and detector assemblies during the active scan portion. A processing unit operable to compare the reference measurement against an expected reference value to identify a variance and to selectively trigger an action in response to the variance.
Fabrication Of Micromodels For Carbonate Reservoirs
A carbonate microfluidic model with controllable nanoscale porosity and methods are described. The method for fabricating a carbonate nanofluidic micromodel with controllable nanoscale porosity for studying fluid behaviors in an underground oil-reservoir environment includes: disposing a plurality of polymer spheres into a transparent flow cell; initiating crystallization of the plurality of polymer spheres to form a template with an opal structure; filling the transparent flow cell with a calcium-based solution and a carbonate-based solution to form nanocrystals in voids of the opal structure; and removing the template formed by crystallization of the plurality of polymer spheres from the transparent flow cell leaving an inverse opal structure with a plurality of nanoscale pores and a carbonate surface. The model includes: a transparent flow cell including a first end defining an inlet and a second end defining an outlet; and an inverse opal structure of carbonate inside the transparent flow cell.

Coated Separator, Electrochemical Cell Comprising A Coated Separator, And Method Of Making A Coated Separator
A coated separator includes a porous separator base material including a porous polymer film; a first coating layer including electrochemically stable thermoplastic polymer particles disposed on a first surface of the porous separator base material, wherein the electrochemically stable thermoplastic polymer particles have a melting temperature of 90 to 135 C.; and a second coating layer including ceramic particles having an average particle size of greater than 100 nanometers; wherein the second coating layer is disposed on the first coating layer on a side opposite the porous separator base material; or the second coating layer is disposed on the porous separator base material on a second side opposite first coating layer; or the first coating layer and the second coating layer are combined to form an intermixed coating layer disposed on the first surface of the porous separator base material. Electrochemical cells, a device including an electrochemical cell, and a method of making the coated separator are also described.
Modified Carbon Nanomaterials As Tracers For Reservoir Monitoring
A carbon nanoparticle and methods of making and using a carbon nanoparticle are provided. The carbon nanoparticle includes a reaction product of an organic reactant, an alkoxy amine, and an organometallic compound. The organometallic compound includes an element selected from the group consisting of a rare earth element, a transition metal element, and combinations thereof, and the carbon nanoparticle includes from 0.5 to 50 wt. % of the element. A method of making the carbon nanoparticle is also provided. The method includes combining the organic reactant, the alkoxy amine, and the organometallic compound into a mixture and heating the mixture such that the carbon nanoparticle forms. A method of determining a flow characteristic of a formation or an attribute of a fluid in a formation using the carbon nanoparticle is also provided.
