Abstract:
A method for producing and for subsequently decrypting a protected stream of compressed video content is described herein. The method includes receiving an input stream of compressed video content containing a sequence of frames. A set of encrypted frames are created by encrypting selected frames of the sequence of frames in accordance with a frame encryption function. The method further includes generating frame decryption information necessary to decrypt the set of encrypted frames. In a particular implementation the protected stream is assembled using the set of encrypted frames, unencrypted frames from the input stream, and the frame decryption information. The decryption process is initiated by receiving the protected stream of compressed video content and the corresponding frame decryption information. In this regard the frame decryption information includes data distinguishing the encrypted frames from the unencrypted frames of the compressed video content within the protected stream. The encrypted frames are then decrypted in accordance with the frame decryption information.
A file for storing digital data with high compression rate stores digital data for video and audio signals in multiple streams interleaved with each other. Each track has a stream descriptor list and a stream data list. The stream descriptor list includes a stream header chunk, a stream format chunk, and a stream name chunk. For a video stream, the stream descriptor list also includes a stream header data chunk if the video stream is under digital rights management (DRM) protection. The file format is compatible with high level data compressing algorithms, such as MPEG-4, which provide data compression ratio about six to ten times higher than a standard DVD format.

Abstract:
Methods and systems for controlling ambient light effects associated with video content are provided. The method includes providing a receiving device configured to parse an incoming video file. The video file includes at least one track specifying at least one ambient light effect associated with at least one portion of the video file. The at least one track includes chrominance control data specifying at least one light color to be generated by the at least one lighting device. The method also includes parsing the video file at the receiving device to separate the track specifying the ambient light effect and the chrominance control data and sending a command to at least one lighting device to generate the ambient light effect specified in the track and the chrominance control data.
Home Audio Video Display Device (Avdd) As Sensor Monitor

Abstract:
An audio video display device (AVDD) system includes a display, a processor controlling the display, and a computer readable storage medium accessible to the processor and programmed with instructions. The instructions cause the processor to establish communication with at least one sensor. The instructions then cause the processor to receive information from the sensor conforming to an application programming interface (API) provided by a manufacturer of the AVDD to an entity affiliated with the sensor, or sent from the AVDD to the sensor. Thereafter, the instructions cause the processor to present the information from the sensor on the display in accordance with the API.
A process of bit rate control includes asymmetrical reactions to changes in the signal density of the digital video signals. In the process, two different averaging periods are employed to meet a long term bit rate target and to achieve a short term quick reaction. When encoding a motion picture, the bit rate control is relaxed during high motion scenes to allow high peaks of bit rate at those points. The coding process reacts slowly to transitions from low to high motion sequences to preserve the best overall video quality, and reacts quickly to transitions from high to low motion sequences to enhance the image quality.

Abstract:
Described are methods, devices, and systems to provide enhanced wireless coverage for wireless mobile stations by facilitating centralized authentication for a variety of unrelated networks. The mobile stations can then access Internet and telephony resources via the various networks for improved coverage and bandwidth. Some embodiments support the extension of network coverage using wireless-access points that can be partitioned into multiple virtual access points, one associated with an enterprise and another with an overlay network that facilitates mobile communication over multiple networks. One physical access point can support an enterprise network using one virtual access point and the overlay network using another. Users unaffiliated with an enterprise can access the overlay network via the enterprise's physical access point without gaining access to the enterprise network.

Abstract:
A control circuit operably couples to a plurality of home-automation edge-component interfaces. This control circuit is configured to compatibly interact with a plurality of home-automation edge components using characterizing abstracts as correspond to the home-automation edge components. By one approach at least some of the plurality of home-automation edge components belong to different classes that are operationally incompatible with one another.
