Abstract:
This invention relates to the preparation and use of supported, manganese sulfide promoted molybdenum and tungsten sulfide catalysts useful for hydroprocessing processes, particularly hydrotreating. These catalysts are prepared by heating a composite of support material and precursor salt under oxygen-free conditions and in the presence of sulfur, wherein said precursor salt contains a thiometallate anion of Mo, W or mixture thereof and a cation comprising one or more promoter metals which are chelated by at least one neutral, nitrogen-containing polydentate ligand, and wherein said promoter metal comprises Mn alone or a mixture of Mn with Co, Ni, Zn, Cu or mixture thereof.

Abstract:
A new composition of matter comprising molybdenum trioxide and heterocyclic nitrogen or oxygen Lewis bases. The molybdenum trioxide, upon reaction with Lewis base, forms a layered compound characterized in that the Lewis base is covalently bonded to molybdenum atoms in molybdenum oxide layers. The layered compound has the formula LMoO. sub. 3 where L is a Lewis base containing nitrogen or oxygen electron donors and selected from the group consisting of 5- and 6-membered heterocyclic amines, amine oxides, triorganophosphates, phosphine oxides and sulfoxides. L has the steric requirement such that its cross-sectional area perpendicular to an axis running through the L-Mo covalent bond is less than about 30(A). sup. 2.

Abstract:
A class of cation-reordered, bismuth-containing compounds having a perovskite-type structure of the formula Ba. sub. 2 La. sub. y Bi. sub. 2-y O. sub. 6 wherein y is greater than 0 but less than 1, is provided. Preferably, y is from 0. 25 to 0. 75, and most preferably y is 0. 5. The compositions herein are found to be particularly advantageous in the selective production of aromatic compounds from acyclic olefins, particularly in the production of benzene from propylene.

Abstract:
Supported, hydroprocessing catalysts comprising a sulfide of (i) trivalent chromium, (ii) Mo, W or mixture thereof and (iii) at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co, Mn, Cu, Zn and mixture thereof and mixture thereof with Fe. These catalysts are made by compositing a preselected quantity of support material with a precursor comprising a mixture of (i) hydrated oxide of trivalent chromium and (ii) a salt containing a thiometallate anion of Mo or W and a cation comprising at least one divalent promoter metal chelated by at least one, neutral, nitrogen-containing polydentate ligand and heating the composite in the presence of sulfur and hydrogen in an oxygen-free atmosphere. These catalysts have been found to be useful hydrotreating catalysts having nitrogen removal activity superior to that of commercial catalysts such as sulfided cobalt-molybdate on alumina.
