A system and method are provided for enabling Web services to enforce multiple countries' data protection laws and regulations during data collection, data processing storage and data transfer. The system maintains a dynamic list of countries or entities that have been recognized for their adequate data protection. A data collection form is provided that takes into consideration data protection laws of the sovereign in which the form is being filled out. The system prohibits the transfer of personal data in contravention of a local sovereign's data protection laws.
The invention comprises a system and method for management of Web users' privacy preferences. In the distributed system, a Web user has a single set of privacy preferences. The single set of privacy preferences and any of its modifications are propagated among Web browsers and Web services. The user's own privacy preferences are enforced at Web services based on the requester's privacy policies.

Abstract:
A personalized marketing and registration wizard for businesses is provided. Data is gleaned from a portal profile database to drive one-to-one marketing, registration, upselling, and cross-selling of partner services and centralized portal tools. Using the portal profile database, up-to-date user profile information is collected and shared across multiple vendors. The portal profile database preferably is not accessible by vendors, and each vendor is responsible for storing a desired subset of the user profile in the vendor's own database. In this way, a quasi-intelligent portal for multiple tasks is provided, where each task comprises a business function promoted to an end user in a logical fashion, and such that tasks from various vendors are promoted to the end user in a consistent fashion.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for converting a first document to a second document. The first document is in a first extended attribute grammar, while the second document is in a second extended attribute grammar. An extended attribute coupling grammar couples the first and second extended attribute grammars. The first document is converted to a first tree, which is partially copied to a first copy. The first copy is completed by evaluating it's attribute with respect to the extended attribute coupling grammar. The first copy is then a partially attributed tree of the second document. The partially attributed tree is completed to form a second tree based on the second extended attribute grammar. The second tree is then converted to the second document.
