Antarctica Is Losing An Unfathomable Amount of Ice
That the rate of ice loss is now three times faster than it was prior to 2012, when we last looked, Andrew Shepherd, a cryosphere scientist at the University of Leeds who led the motley crew of authors, told Earther. The longer term 25-year signal is now one of clearly increasing losses in most c

3 trillion tons of Antarctic ice lost since 1992, seas rising, study suggests
"This is a big increase in ice loss that needs to be understood and needs to be taken into consideration when we look to the future," Andrew Shepherd, lead author and a professor of Earth Observation University of Leeds in the United Kingdom said.
There are processes we know about that happen in the ice sheetwe can see them on land, and from sky and spacethat can cause them to destabilize really quickly, said Andrew Shepherd, a professor of earth observation at the University of Leeds.

Earth Is a Wilder, Warmer Place Since Last Climate Deal Made
The West Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets have lost 5.5 trillion tons of ice, or 5 trillion metric tons, according to Andrew Shepherd at the University of Leeds, who used NASA and European satellite data.
Its leader, Andrew Shepherd from Leeds University, UK, commented: "This new study is the first prediction of future ice losses to really take today's changes into account. Because of this, we can be more confident in their findings.

Greenland's contribution to sea-level rise may be much larger than expected ...
"This is important, as the lakes are known to trigger increased ice sheet lubrication, flow and loss, and yet their spreading was neglected in IPCC models used to predict ice sheet losses," said Andrew Shepherd, a professor of earth observation at the University of Leeds and co-author of the researc
"Because ice losses from Greenland are a key signal of global climate change, it's important that we consider all factors that could affect the rate at which it will lose ice as climate warms," said co-author Andrew Shepherd, also from the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds.
