The present invention provides compositions that enable excellent early hardness development in coating applications, the compositions comprising a blend of one or more acrylic emulsion copolymer, pA, having a Tg of 20 C. or higher, and one or more acrylic emulsion copolymer, pB, having a Tg at least 15 C. lower than that of pA, together with one or more additive chosen from a coalescent having a normal boiling point no greater than 300 C., a naturally derived plasticizer, and mixtures thereof. The compositions may be ambient curable.

Abstract:
The instant invention provides a crosslinkable aqueous composition, method of producing the same, crosslinked compositions, and method of producing the same. The crosslinkable composition comprising: an aqueous dispersion comprising; (a) water; (b) a polycarbamate comprising at least an average of 2.0 carbamate functional groups; (c) a polyaldehyde comprising at least two aldehyde groups; (d) an acid catalyst; and (e) optionally one or more surfactants; wherein said aqueous dispersion has a pH in the range of less than 7; and wherein said composition is capable of being crosslinked at a temperature in range of less than 80 C. upon substantial removal of water.

Abstract:
The invention relates to wood coating composition selected to accentuate the color and the natural grain structure of the underlying surface of a wood article, such as, a furniture or carving. The surface of the article is coated with a waterborne system that includes a copolymer copolymerized from at least one first copolymerizable monomer and at least one second copolymerizable monomer containing a conjugate base of a strong acid. The coating enhances the reddish-yellow hues and suppress the bluish hues and grays. Such a coating is aesthetically pleasing and it enhances the natural beauty of high quality wood, such as, rose, cherry, teak, mahogany. The present method can be utilized by furniture manufacturers who plan to replace solvent borne coating compositions, such as nitrocellulose-based lacquers, with waterborne coating compositions.
An aqueous aerosol coating composition comprising a blend of neutralized acrylic dispersible polymer having a relatively high Tg, high acid number and low molecular weight, with a drying oil-modified, low molecular weight copolymer in a water-based carrier and propellant system which comprises dimethyl ether, water and a water-soluble organic solvent. Compositions containing the blend of this invention produce polymer coatings that possess improved drying time without adversely effecting other physical properties.
