Abstract:

A wireless communication device and method adapted for temperature monitoring and warning is disclosed. In its simplest form, it can include: providing () a multi-mode communication device including an unrestricted mode having an unrestricted operation temperature range and a restricted mode having a restricted operation temperature range; determining () if a temperature in proximity to an energy storage device is in at least one of the restricted operation temperature range and the unrestricted operation temperature range; periodically entering () the restricted mode when in the restricted operation temperature range and entering the unrestricted mode when in the unrestricted operation temperature range; and entering () the unrestricted mode when a user attempts to make an emergency call. Advantageously, this method allows safe battery operation, while allowing a user to make emergency calls.

Abstract:

A display interface and method for displaying multiple items arranged in a sequence are provided for presenting to the user via the display the multiple items along one of multiple paths as the user scrolls through the items. The display interface includes a display, a user input and a controller. The display is adapted for visually presenting to the user the multiple items from the group of items arranged in the sequence. The user input is adapted for receiving at least one of multiple different user gestures. The controller is adapted for comparing a received user gesture with one of a plurality of predefined gestures which are intended to signal a desire to scroll through the group of items arranged in the sequence, where as the group of items are scrolled through, a different subset of multiple items from the group of items arranged in the sequence are presented to the user via the display. If a first one of the plurality of predefined gestures is received, the multiple items from the group of items arranged in the sequence are presented to the user via the display along a first path on the display. If a second one of the plurality of predefined gestures is received, the multiple items from the group of items arranged in the sequence are presented to the user via the display along a second path on the display, which is different from the first path.

Abstract:

In one embodiment, a mobile device system capable of viewfinder operation includes a memory device, a photosensitive device capable of receiving light providing an image of an external object, a video screen, and a processing device coupled at least indirectly to each of the memory and photosensitive devices and the screen, where the processing device provides signal(s) to the screen configured to cause the screen to operate as a viewfinder that displays a further image based upon the external object image. The mobile device further includes at least one sensing device either distinct from or associated with the screen, and configured to detect input commands indicated by movement or positioning of at least one object. The processing device causes the screen to display a plurality of options and subsequently to modify the further image displayed by the viewfinder in accordance with the detected commands. Abstract:

A method on a mobile device for a wireless network is described. An audio input is monitored for a trigger phrase spoken by a user of the mobile device. A command phrase spoken by the user after the trigger phrase is buffered. The command phrase corresponds to a call command and a call parameter. A set of target contacts associated with the mobile device is selected based on respective voice validation scores and respective contact confidence scores. The respective voice validation scores are based on the call parameter. The respective contact confidence scores are based on a user context associated with the user. A call to a priority contact of the set of target contacts is automatically placed if the voice validation score of the priority contact meets a validation threshold and the contact confidence score of the priority contact meets a confidence threshold.

Embodiments are provided for equalizing audio data for output by a speaker of an electronic device based on a local position or orientation of the electronic device. According to certain aspects, the electronic device can determine () its local position based on various sensor data, and identify () an appropriate equalization setting. In some cases, the electronic device can modify () the equalization setting based on acoustic and/or optical data. The electronic device can apply () the modified or unmodified equalization setting to an audio signal and cause the speaker to output () the audio signal with the applied equalization setting.
