Skills:
Nonviolent Communication: I have been a student of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) since the fall of 2008, and have taken numerous courses and workshops through the Washington Center for Nonviolent Communication and through ZENVC in Chapel Hill, NC. The practice of NVC seeks to create understanding and empathic listening in the midst of challenging situations, and offers tools for redirecting communication both as a speaker and as a listener - from the point of view of conflict to a place of honest and authentic expression. I have taken several workshops in NVC with a focus on the role of NVC in the classroom, and have integrated NVC into some of my programs as a teaching artist, creating a focus on human rights, nonviolence, and social change.
