Abstract:

A crosshead piston assembly has a piston body with an upper head portion formed with a plurality of piston rings and a lower stem portion formed with a pin bore. The pin bore has a pair of lower, laterally spaced mounting ears presenting a bearing support surface interrupted by a lateral gap between the ears. A saddle is arranged opposite the ears and provides a bearing support surface which is continuous along the pin bore. A three-piece slipper bearing set is disposed in the pin bore and includes a pair of lower bearing shells seated in the ears and an upper bearing shell seated in the saddle. The upper bearing shell and saddle are formed with aligned oil supply and retaining holes. The oil supply hole is maintained fully open, while a retaining pin is installed in the aligned retention holes to support the upper bearing shell against movement relative to the saddle.

Abstract:

A cylinder liner for an internal combustion engine provides a method of replacement of spent cylinder liners, wherein the cylinder liner includes a generally cylindrical body having a flange extending radially outwardly defining a shoulder. The shoulder provides a positive stop in an axial direction against a surface within a cylinder block of the engine. The body has an engagement portion adjacent the shoulder. The engagement portion is necked down from the flange and has lower and upper portions providing an interference fit within the cylinder block. The lower and upper portions of the engagement portion are separated from one another by a channel that extends substantially about the circumference of the body. The channel provides a passage for fluid flow between the lower and upper portions to facilitate cooling of the engagement portion.

Abstract:

The present solenoid stator assembly mounts on a seat forming part of a fuel injector, secured to it by mounting bolts. A rigid metal outer housing has a base shaped to fit upon the mounting seat of the fuel injector and defines an interior chamber. An E-shaped stator core is located centrally within the interior chamber and an insulated plastic inner housing extends between the stator core and the outer housing to fixedly secure the core within the interior chamber. The outer housing reinforces the insulated plastic inner housing against the bulging forces imposed by high fuel pressure and protects it against damage from external blows.
