Abstract:

A medication delivery pen includes a housing having opposing proximal and distal ends. An actuator is disposed in the proximal end of the housing for setting and administering a dosage of medication. The pen also includes a medication-containing cartridge assembly having a cartridge with a pierceably sealed distal end, an open proximal end removably attachable to the distal end of the housing, and a piston in sliding fluid tight engagement within the cartridge. A drive mechanism is coupled between the actuator and the cartridge to exert an axial force on the piston to inject the set dosage of medication. The actuator triggers the drive mechanism to administer the injection of medication held in the cartridge. A processor is coupled to the actuator to determine a value equal to the dosage set by the actuator. A memory device is coupled to the processor to store at least the dosage value determined by the processor.

Abstract:

A medication delivery pen is provided including a leadscrew having a plurality of threads; a driver coaxially disposed about at least a portion of the leadscrew; a dosing ring non-rotatably disposed on the driver, the dosing ring also being slidable along the driver; and, a dose knob coaxially disposed about the dosing ring. At least one tooth is formed on one of the dose knob and the dosing ring, and at least one groove is formed on the other of the dose knob and the dosing ring, with the groove being formed to receive the tooth. The dosing ring is selectively movable relative to the dose knob from a first position where the tooth and the groove are spaced apart to a second position where the tooth is received within the groove, the dosing ring being rotatable with the dose knob with the dosing ring being in the second position. Incorrect dosage settings of the inventive pen may be easily corrected by a user via a novel dial-back feature that enables the user to reset the dose amount without expelling medication and without having to dial the dose knob to an extended, reset position.

Abstract:

A medication delivery pen is provided having a lead screw with an enlarged portion at a first end thereof and an end longitudinally opposite the first end in contacting engagement with a plunger of a medication cartridge. The lead screw is selectively axially displaceable by a user when selectively administering a predetermined dosage amount of medication for injection into a patient. The medication delivery pen also includes a driver coaxially disposed about the lead screw; and, a reset ring non-rotatably disposed on the driver and axially slidable thereon and therealong. The reset ring is axially movable with respect to the driver when a dosage amount is set by a user of the medication delivery pen. The reset ring engages the enlarged portion of the lead screw upon a predetermined extent of relative axial movement between the reset ring and the lead screw. With this arrangement, the reset ring advantageously prevents setting a dose on a medication delivery pen that is greater than the medication which is available.

Abstract:

The present invention is directed to an automatic reconstitution drug delivery device. The inventive device effects simple and automatic reconstitution of a dry drug. To effect reconstitution, a user displaces a release button which causes first and second chambers of a drug cartridge to communicate, resulting in automatic mixing of a diluent and dry drug to effect reconstitution of the dry drug. The user then simply sets the dose volume using a dose-setting mechanism, and administers the injection in a manner typical of self-injection drug delivery devices. Whole or partial automatic priming can be also achieved by the device.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to an injection device comprises a generally elongated tubular housing having opposite proximal and distal ends; a needle shield sleeve slidably and coaxially arranged inside the housing and protruding a distance outside the proximal end of the housing; a syringe carrier mechanism comprising a syringe carrier slidably and coaxially arranged to the needle shield sleeve, wherein said syringe carrier comprises a syringe having a medicament and a needle; a first activator member slidably and coaxially arranged to the housing and connected to said needle shield sleeve; an actuating member slidably and coaxially arranged to the first activator member; a drive mechanism slidably and coaxially arranged to the actuating member and to the syringe carrier mechanism, said drive mechanism being controlled by the actuating member; a second activator member slidably and coaxially arranged to the distal end of the housing and fixedly connected to the actuating member; wherein the first and the second activator members are coaxially movable relative each other from a non-activation position wherein the activator members are abutting to each other to an activation position wherein the activator members are co-acting independent of the sequence in which said activator members are activated; and wherein only in the activation position is the actuating member capable of releasing the drive mechanism to move said syringe carrier mechanism for penetrating the needle and to deliver said medicament though the needle.
