A system and method for securely downloading digital music data includes a portable handheld device having a detachable smart card for decrypting encrypted music as it is played thereby allowing the portable device to receive and play encrypted music files. The smart card includes both a digital decryption key and hardware that decrypt the encrypted music using the key. The portable handheld device is configured to connect to a remote server, using the decryption key to establish a secure data communications channel, in order to receive the encrypted music files from the remote server. In an alternative system, a personal computer (PC) that is configured to connect to the smart card allows the PC to download and play the encrypted music. In another aspect of the system and method, the smart card provides the remote server with information that is used to pay for the downloaded digital music data. In one embodiment, the smart card has a stored monetary value that is read and modified by the remote server.

Abstract:
An arrangement comprising a master unit and one or more slave units, where the master sends out bursts, at specified intervals, in a frequency hopping manner, with each burst being at a different frequency. The slave responds with acknowledgements, and the signal strengths of the acknowledgments are used to select one or more of the acknowledgments as the signals used for distance, or range, estimation. Advantageously, the durations of the intervals are fairly long during normal operation, and short at times when certain conditions occur, such as loss of communication or when accurate range estimation is required. Also, the slave is adapted to sleep while it is not expecting a burst transmission from the master, thereby saving power. The frequency hopping sequencing is preferably pseudo random, with a different sequencing of the same set of frequencies at different modes of operation.

Abstract:
A content navigation method that may be used with a storage device that holds multiple content objects includes a controller, at least one search switch and at least one control switch. Each of the content objects has a corresponding name which includes at least one character from an alphabet. The controller determines a set of names of the stored content that corresponds to the activation of the search switch, displays at least one name the set of names and, responsive to the control switch, selects the content object corresponding to the displayed name. The search switches may include multiple search switches, each associated with a predetermined set of letters from the alphabet. Alternatively, each switch may have an corresponding display and may be associated with a dynamically determined set of letters based on their frequency of occurrence in the names.

Abstract:
A system for measuring body fat percentage is disclosed. The system relies upon the measurement of a subject's weight in two gases of different densities. The difference in weight, along with the difference in atmospheric density, is used to determine the subject's density. Implementing Archimedes' principle of binary mixtures, this figure is used to determine the proportion by weight of fat in the subject. The weight of the subject is measured with a precision balance. The density of the gas is determined with an ultrasonic probe that senses the change in sonic velocity, which is related to the density of the atmosphere.

Abstract:
Dual-mode position-locating tag, including: a transmitter module configured to communicate with a Wi-Fi network; a transceiver module configured to communicate with a non-Wi-Fi network; a processor coupled to the transmitter module and the transceiver module; and at least one location sensor coupled to the processor, the location sensor coupled to a secondary technology receiver. The transmitter module may transmit a signal to produce a first location measurement. The secondary technology receiver may receive a signal usable to calculate a second location measurement that is more accurate than the first location measurement.
