Abstract:

A disclosed airfoil health monitoring system and method obtains a signal comprising a waveform indicative of an airfoil path with a sensor. Features of the waveform are determined and compared waveform characteristics indicative of a vibrational mode. A vibrational mode of the airfoil may then be determined based on the comparison between the predetermined waveform characteristics and the obtained waveform indicative of the airfoil path.

Abstract:

A process for scheduling engine inspection for a gas turbine engine includes computing an expected damage increment based on aircraft usage data of a single flight, computing a cumulative expected damage by summing the expected damage increment with a total set of historical expected damage increments since a previous maintenance, and determining an aggregate risk of failure based on the computed cumulative expected damage. A manual inspection is signaled when the aggregate risk of failure exceeds an acceptable risk threshold.

Abstract:

A novel probabilistic method for analyzing high cycle fatigue (HCF) in a design of a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The method may comprise identifying a component of the gas turbine engine for high cycle fatigue analysis, inputting parametric data of the component over a predetermined parameter space into at least one computer processor, using the at least one computer processor to build a plurality of flexible models of the component based on the parametric data of the component over the predetermined parameter space, using the at least one computer processor to build a plurality of emulators of the component based on the plurality of flexible models, and using the at least one computer processor to predict a probability of HCF based at least in part on the parametric data of the component over the predetermined parameter space and the plurality of emulators.
