Abstract:

Configuration of an embedded network device is described. The configuration technique described can is accomplished by a single process in order to provide a complete and consistent configuration. Various tests are performed including heuristic checks that check for common configuration errors. Other hardware and software tests are also performed. In one embodiment, the embedded network device includes an operating system kernel stored in memory and executed by a processor. During configuration, extensions to the operating system as well as application-level upgrades can be provided.

A system and method of making up and breaking out a dual-member drill string. The system comprises a spindle, a spindle carriage and a drive frame. The drive frame provides thrust to the spindle, while the spindle carriage provides rotation. The spindle has an outer spindle and an inner spindle, and is adapted to connect to a pipe section having an outer pipe section and an inner pipe section. Inner joints are geometrically shaped, while outer joints are threaded. When making up dual, member drill string, the spindle is advanced, with the outer spindle rotating, and the inner spindle rotating in alternating directions, or “dithering. ” A float sensor and a processor are used in tandem to cooperatively couple the inner spindle with the inner pipe sections and the outer spindle with the outer pipe sections.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for securing a social security number involve pairing a traditional personal identification number, or other personal identifier, with a social security number for verification purposes. In particular, the owner of the social security number can link a PIN, or other identifier, to their social security number in a data storage system. If the owner of a social security number is required to verify their identity, the institution requiring the identity verification can request from the user and submit the person's PIN, or other personal information, to a third-party granting system (e.g., trusted entity), in order to verify that it is paired with the social security number. If the PIN matches the social security number/PIN pairing in the data storage system, the institution can be notified that the individual is verified, and/or indeed owns the social security number.

Abstract:

A system and method are provided for authenticating a person's identity to a business using a trusted entity with a secure repository to store and protect the person's identity information. The person accesses their account on the trusted entity's server using a user name and a password. Then, the trusted entity grants the person a unique code so the person can authenticate their identity to the business. The person delivers the unique code to the transactional entity. The business makes a request to verify the unique code with the trusted entity. The trusted entity verifies the unique code, which authenticates the person's identity to the business.
