Abstract:
A method and system are disclosed to enable and control power reduction in a blade/chassis system. A “maximum power reduction” attribute is stored in the VPD of the blade (or can otherwise be input to or retrieved or calculated by the management entity). The management module of the chassis in which the blades and power supplies are located uses this information to manage the power reduction of blades when the system is operating in an over-subscription mode and a power supply fails. If throttling is required, the system knows the amount of power reduction available for each blade and controls the throttling by spreading it out among the blades in the system so that, ideally, no blade will cease operation altogether.

Abstract:
A method and circuit for implementing an enhanced availability personality card for a chassis computer system, and a design structure on which the subject circuit resides are provided. The personality card includes a first erasable programmable read only memory (EPROM) and a second EPROM, each EPROM storing Vital Product Data (VPD) and a first temperature sensor and a second temperature sensor sensing temperature. A primary bidirectional bus and a redundant bidirectional bus are respectively connected between the first EPROM and the first temperature sensor and the second EPROM and the second temperature sensor, and a pair of chassis management modules. Each chassis management module includes a switch connected to both the primary bidirectional bus and the redundant bidirectional bus providing redundant paths, enabling continued function with failure of any critical personality card component.

US Classification:

Abstract:
The present invention facilitates the management of blade server information handling systems by providing a non-disruptive indication signal for power management to a Management Module or similar. By providing said functionality and method, the power available to power the management module at a particular instance, in relationship to the power state of the chassis may be determined, such that power may be configured in a non-disruptive manner for the management module. Said functionality and method also provides for both the safe and efficient powering of a server from cold start or the hot-plugging of a management module into an active, powered chassis.

Abstract:
An apparatus for memory management a high-speed fabric controller and a memory controller connected between a high-speed memory and a processor. The memory controller is configured to control processor access to the high-speed memory over a memory bus between the processor and the high-speed memory. The apparatus includes a high-speed data connection between the memory controller and the high-speed fabric controller and a data connection between a tier of persistent data storage and the high-speed fabric controller. The high-speed fabric controller is configured to control data transfers between the tier of persistent data storage over and the high-speed memory independent of the processor.
