Abstract:

A portable alarm system in which the alarm functions are contained within a portable enclosure, communication is maintained between the alarm system and wireless security devices, and the alarm is capable of initiating a telephone call to a security monitoring station either by conventional hard-wired telephone lines by cellular transmission, by 1900 megahertz PCS or by other wireless technology. The system may include a wireless/cordless line seizure feature to use a nearby landline if the system is plugged into a landline that has been disabled. The system may also include a vibration/shock sensor to activate the alarm functions if the portable unit is moved or attempted to be destroyed by an intruder.

Abstract:

A method of providing simple, low-cost and effective alarm system protection. The method is especially useful in locations where the installation of a conventional, hard-wired alarm system would be impossible or economically impractical. The method utilizes a portable alarm system which incorporates wireless technology along with wireless transmission service, therefore providing the ability to protect virtually anything, anywhere, at any time. The present invention also provides for both automated and manned monitoring of the alarm location by a security monitoring company, which may be contacted at any time, from any location, at a single phone number or internet address, for example. The method of the present invention also utilizes a method of call retainment and multiple redundancy to ensure that any calls placed by the portable alarm system are received by the security monitoring company. Additionally, the present invention contemplates a method by which false alarms after initial set up of the alarm system may be reduced, and also a method which allows the user of the alarm system to abort known false alarms by contacting the security monitoring company.

Abstract:

A security cable for protecting transportable items. The security cable produces a wireless alarm transmission to a remote location upon the detection of a security breach. The security cable may consist of two sections of conductive cable emanating from an enclosure. The enclosure houses means to monitor at least one characteristic of the cable after the cable ends are joined. A communications device is secured within the enclosure and adapted to initiate and complete a wireless transmission to a remote location in response to certain changes in the monitored characteristic of the cable. Embodiments of the security cable may be used independently or in conjunction with an existing alarm system. The security cable may further utilize an integral motion detector, may communicate with other remote wireless transmitting devices, and may possess other features such as an audible siren, a strobe light, a programmable keypad, a wireless receiver, indicator lights and a tamper switch.
