Method For Storing Purged Hydrogen From A Vehicle Fuel Cell System
Brian David James - Alexandria VA George Steve Saloka - Dearborn MI
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
H01M 804
US Classification:
429 13, 429 22
Abstract:
A method of operating a fuel cell having an anode passage. The method includes collecting hydrogen from the anode passage that does not pass through the catalyst membrane. The hydrogen, together with water and inert gases, are directed to a hydrogen storage container. The hydrogen storage container includes a hydrogen storage media such as metal hydride, carbon adsorbents, or carbon nanofibers. A sensor determines whether or not the vehicle is moving. When the vehicle is stopped or moving slowly, the surplus hydrogen is directed to the hydrogen storage container for temporary storage. When the sensor determines that the vehicle is moving at a high speed, the surplus hydrogen is vented to atmosphere and the hydrogen storage media is renewed.
Plate-Frame Heat Exchange Reactor With Serial Cross-Flow Geometry

US Classification:

Abstract:
A plate-frame heat exchange reactor having a serial cross-flow geometry. This is accomplished by designing a plate-frame heat exchanger wherein the flow of feed gas in one cell of the reactor flows perpendicular to the flow of burner exhaust within the next adjacent cell. The improved reactor increases the Reynold's number of the flows as compared with a massively parallel design to improve heat transfer and reactant mixing characteristics, thereby reducing reactor size by half or more. The serial cross-flow arrangement allows for constructing reactors where feed gas addition is possible at many distinct points along the serial flow in order to control hot spots or other undesirable chemical reactions. The new arrangement also greatly reduces manifolding of the flows and reduces the distinct components of the reactor.
Heat Exchange Reactor Having Integral Housing Assembly
The present invention provides a heat exchange reactor, which includes at least one tube bundle containing a plurality of tubes arranged substantially parallel to a common longitudinal axis and within an external pressure housing, the bundle having first and second ends in respective first fluid communication with at least one first fluid inlet and at least one first fluid outlet, and the external pressure housing having at least one second fluid inlet and at least one second fluid outlet; at least one baffle oriented substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and disposed about the bundle and configured as a manifold to control a flow of the second fluid; at least one layer of interior thermal insulation disposed between the bundle and the housing and in fluid communication with the second fluid. Other embodiments of the present invention include methods of using and methods of making the heat exchange reactor.

Abstract:
A heat exchange apparatus including a housing, a first array of fluid conduits provided within the housing, and a second array of fluid conduits provided within the housing. The first and second arrays of fluid conduits are configured to carry a first fluid. The heat exchange apparatus also includes a first fluid passageway provided within the housing, where the first fluid passageway is defined by an internal surface of the housing and by a baffle plate. The first fluid passageway is configured to carry a second fluid. The baffle plate is configured to divide the first fluid passageway into a first flow path and a second flow path, where the first array of fluid conduits extends through the first flow path and the second array of fluid conduits extends through the second flow path.
Systems And Methods Related To A Temporal Log Structure Database

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
In one general aspect, a computer-implemented method includes a computer-implemented method that includes executing, using at least one processor, instructions recorded on a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium. The method includes receiving a request to insert a data record within a database of a data collection system. The data record can be placed within a buffer in a main memory of the data collection system. A record data structure and a record index structure associated with the data record are defined. The record data structure and the record index structure are stored within a storage chunk in a storage medium of the database, and the storage medium is different than the main memory. The storage chunk has an associated index that can be used to retrieve the data record and the storage chunk can include other data records different than the data record associated with the received request.

An on-board reforming system for a vehicle fuel cell having a pair of hydrogen purification units linked together. The first hydrogen purification unit generates a first hydrogen stream at a first pressure. The second hydrogen purification unit generates a second hydrogen stream at a second pressure. The first hydrogen stream is fed to a metal hydride storage bed for charging thereof. The hydrogen in the metal hydride storage bed is combined with the second hydrogen stream to feed the fuel cell.
