Abstract:
A multi-mode mobile station includes a first interface for wireless communication with a first wireless network, such as a wireless local area network (WLAN), and a second interface for wireless communication with a second wireless network, such as a wireless wide area network (WWAN). When a call is placed to the multi-mode mobile station, a softswitch or other controller attempts to establish the call with the multi-mode mobile station via the first wireless network. If this attempt is unsuccessful because the multi-mode mobile station is inaccessible via the first wireless network, the controller then attempts to establish the call via the second wireless network.
Method And System To Support Internal Calling Upon Loss Of Connection With Ip Centrex Server
A method and system for facilitating calling within an enterprise network upon failure of a landline connection between the enterprise network and an outside call server such as an IP Centrex server. Upon failure of the landline connection, an enterprise router switches over to a backup wireless packet-data link, such as a 3G cellular link for instance. Thus, packet-based call signaling can continue to flow between the enterprise network and the call server so as to continue setting up inside calls between enterprise telephone stations. The backup wireless packet-data link can also be used to carry a limited extent of outside calls, such as emergency calls for instance.

Abstract:
A communication system comprising an end device, a location server, and a plurality of resources, each resource for providing individual instances of a first application. The end device is configured to transmit a first test message for the first application to a first resource of the plurality of resources using a first access method, receive a first response message from the first resource, process the first response message to determine first performance information for the first application, generate a first update message indicating the first performance information, and transmit the first update message to a location server.

Abstract:
A communication network comprises a first gateway, a second gateway, a soft switch, and an end device. The end device transmits a first test message to the first gateway and transmits a second test message to the second gateway. The first gateway receives the first test message and transmits a first response message responsive to the first test message. The second gateway receives the second test message and transmits a second response message responsive to the second test message. The end device receives the first response message, receives the second response message, processes the first response message and the second response message to determine a preferred gateway of the first gateway and the second gateway, generates an update message indicating the preferred gateway, and transmits the update message to the soft switch.

Abstract:
A communication device has a data application and a voice application. The device establishes a data session between the data application and a data system. During the data session, the device receives a voice session request from a voice communication system, and in response, alerts the user of the request and transfers a voice session request indication from the voice application to the data application. The device receives user acceptance of the voice session request, and in response, transfers a voice session acceptance indication from the voice application to the data application. In response to the voice session indications, the device transfers a data session message from the data application to the data system and then transfers a ready indication from the data application to the voice application. In response to the ready indication, the communication device then transfers a voice session acceptance from the voice application to the voice communication system.

Systems and methods of wirelessly transmitting multimedia data over a cellular network are disclosed which may, in some embodiments, comprise transmitting a segmented multimedia content from a data center to a base transceiver station, transmitting the content from the base transceiver station to a wireless device, and tracking a usage of the content by a user on the wireless device. These systems and methods may further comprise transmitting the usage of the content of the user to the base transceiver station, transmitting the usage of the content of the user from the base transceiver station to the data center, and creating a customized content based on the usage of the content on the wireless device by the user. In addition, these systems and methods may also further comprise transmitting the customized content to the base transceiver station and transmitting the customized content from the base transceiver station to the wireless device.

Abstract:
A communication system comprises an end system coupled to an access system and configured to transmit an invite message for a session wherein the invite message indicates a destination and an alias for the end system, a proxy system configured to receive the invite message and transfer a quality request wherein the policy request indicates the alias, a policy system configured to receive the quality request, determine a quality level for the session and transmit a quality message to the access system indicating the alias and the quality level, and the access system configured to receive the quality message, transmit a query to a database system indicating the alias, receive a network address for the end system in response to the query, identify traffic for the session using the network address, and apply the quality level to the traffic.

Abstract:
Multimedia services are provided to a subscriber within a domain of a communication network, wherein the subscriber utilizes one or more predetermined access terminals to access the multimedia services according to a network presence configuration of the subscriber. Each access terminal has respective multimedia capabilities, and the domain includes an application server for accessing the multimedia services. A user profile is established for the subscriber relating respective presence identifiers to a respective user service definition, wherein each user service definition specifies a set of the predetermined access terminals and respective multimedia services to be available for a respective network presence configuration. A current presence identifier of the subscriber is registered. The application server accesses the user profile to determine a user service definition corresponding to the current presence identifier.
