Abstract:

Aromatic polyimide composition and articles manufactured therefrom. This invention relates to an aromatic polyimide molding composition, comprising at least one aromatic polyimide (A) chosen from the group consisting of aromatic polyamide-imide, aromatic polyesterimides and aromatic polyimide free of any ester and amide group of specific type and typically from 0. 5 to 30% wt of at least one fluoroelastomer (B), with respect to the total weight of (A) and (B), to a method for manufacturing the same, to a molding process of the same, and to the articles manufactured therefrom. Preferably, the component (A) of the composition is at least one aromatic polyamide-imide manufactured by a process including the polycondensation reaction between (i) at least one acid monomer chosen from trimellitic anhydride and trimellitic anhydride monoacid halides and (ii) at least one commoner chosen from the group consisting of 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane, 4,4′-diaminodiphenylether, m-phenylenediamine and mixtures therefrom. Advantageously, the aromatic polyimide composition of the invention, owed to its improved flexibility during the molding process, is suitable for the manufacture of articles from mold of complex geometries, such as undercuts, without permanently deforming or cracking upon ejection from the mold.

Abstract:

Tape comprising a polymer composition, said polymer composition comprising at least one fluoropolymer and a modifier consisting of at least one aromatic polyimide chosen from aromatic polyamide-imides and aromatic polyesterimides, and, optionally in addition, at least one aromatic polyimide chosen from aromatic polyimides other than aromatic polyamide-imides and aromatic polyesterimides, said modifier being comprised in the polymer composition in an amount of up to 75 wt. % (based on the total weight of the polymer composition). Article comprising said tape. Processes especially well-adapted for manufacturing said tape. Use of the above modifier as an additive of a polymer composition comprising a fluoropolymer, to increase the abrasion resistance either of a tape comprising said polymer composition, or of an article comprising an outermost layer which covers at least partially the article, said outer most layer comprising a tape comprising said polymer composition.

Flexible pipe (fP) suitable for transporting hydrocarbons, said flexible pipe comprising at least one polymer layer (L) composed of a polymer composition (C) comprising at least one poly(aryl ether ketone) (P1), and at least one per(halo)fluoropolymer (P2). The poly(aryl ether ketone) (P1) and the per(halo)fluoropolymer (P2) are advantageously homogeneously distributed in the polymer composition (C). The polymer composition (C) is profitably prepared by a method comprising tumble blending the per(halo)fluoropolymer (P2) on one hand, and the poly(aryl ether ketone) (P1) or part of the poly(aryl ether ketone) (P1) on the other hand.
