Abstract:

The disclosed method and apparatus provides for improved handoffs for wireless-networking devices when roaming in a wireless network. An exemplary embodiment includes a session initiation protocol (SIP) device that includes a SIP enabled application for securing a plurality of registered internet protocol (IP) connections to respective wireless access points. The device also includes a network interface for issuing a SIP message for notifying a SIP server to handoff the connection from a first access point to a second access point with which the device already has a registered connection. The SIP message can include an IP address previously assigned to the device by the second access point.

Abstract:

A method is disclosed for preparing a partially lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder or solidified cake containing fructose-1,6-diphosphate (FDP), a naturally-occurring intermediate in glycolysis. Preferably, about 10% to 25% residual water (by weight) is left in the powder or cake. This high moisture content does not degrade or limit FDP's stability or shelf life, and it provides for faster, less expensive processing. The methods disclosed herein also allow direct lyophilization inside a vial or other sealed container that will hold the lyophilized FDP, to avoid any need for milling, handling, or other treatment under conditions that might endanger its sterility. Lyophilized FDP can be used to create emergency injection kits which also contain aqueous solutions for mixing, and syringes and needles for injection. These kits can be carried in ambulances, police cars, firetrucks, etc. , and can be stored at nursing homes, swimming pools, and in the homes of people suffering from various conditions such as heart disease or sicle cell anemia.

Abstract:

A method and device are disclosed which enable on-site pre-diagnostic emergency treatment of people suffering from life-threatening injuries (such as victims of auto accidents, shootings, stabbings, and near-drownings), or from a collapse or loss of consciousness that might be due to a heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest, internal hemorrhage, or various other causes that cannot be diagnosed until after a physician or ambulance has arrived on the scene. This on-site pre-diagnostic emergency treatment involves intravenous injection of fructose-1,6-diphosphate (FDP, a naturally-occurring chemical which functions as an intermediate in glycolysis) into the patient. Such injections can be administered by police, firemen, military personnel, lifeguards, nursing home attendants, ambulance attendants, or anyone else who has been trained to administer intravenous injections. The FDP should be injected into the patient as soon as possible, without delaying until the patient can be diagnosed and treated by a doctor. When administered immediately, intravenously injected FDP can reduce ischemic or hypoxic damage to the internal organs, without having any adverse effects or posing any significant risks for patients who may not need it.

Abstract:

Neuroprotective drugs are disclosed with at least 3 branches extending outwardly from a center atom or group, each branch having a guanidino group at its terminus. All branches preferably should be identical, and distributed around the center atom or group in a radial manner. Three branches can be bonded to a nitrogen atom, or four branches can be coupled to a carbon atom; other center groups include stable aromatic, cycloalkyl, heterocyclic, or bicyclic structures. Starting reagents are disclosed with a center atom or group, and with reactive groups (such as primary amines or hydroxyl groups) at the ends of short "spacer chains" bonded to the center atom or group. Reagents derived from arginine (an amino acid having a terminal guanidino group) can be bonded to these center components, using protective groups on the arginyl reagents to ensure desired final products with accessible guanidino groups at the ends of spacer chains. Alternately, guanylating agents can be used to directly convert primary amine groups at the ends of spacer chains, on starting reagents, into guanidino groups. These drugs can be injected intravenously into patients suffering from ischemic or hypoxic crises (stroke, cardiac arrest, loss of blood, suffocation, etc.

Abstract:

A system and method is disclosed for converting drug library packages. An existing drug library software package is automatically analyzed to determine existing drug library information compatible with a target library format corresponding to a target medical device type, and to identify drug library information omitted, missing, or needing editing from the existing drug library information. A user interface is provided for display to convert at least a portion of the identified drug library information to the second library format, and an instruction is received via the user interface to select one or more predetermined parameters in the target library format for assignment to a new drug library software package configured in the target library format based one or more corresponding parameters selected from the identified drug library information. The new drug library software package is generated based on the existing drug library information and the selected one or more predetermined parameters.

Abstract:

One or more medical devices are configured to connect to a predetermined temporary provisioning network of a healthcare organization, the temporary provisioning network being different than a healthcare network of the healthcare organization. After the devices are received by the healthcare organization, and powered up for the first time, device identifiers corresponding to the medical devices are received at a server remote from the healthcare organization, from the temporary provisioning network, together with an indication that the medical devices are requesting access to a management server within a healthcare network of the healthcare organization. On determining that the medical devices are predetermined to receive access to the management server, a provisioning service configures, through the temporary provisioning network, the medical devices to access and communicate with the management server, and informs the management server that the medical devices have been configured to access and communicate with the management server.

Abstract:

The subject matter disclosed herein provides methods for generating an alert to perform maintenance on a medical device based on actual usage of the medical device. In one aspect, the method can include measuring a parameter value for a parameter type. The parameter type can be associated with a component in a medical device connected to a network and related to a function performed by the component. The method can further include locally storing at the medical device the measured parameter value, the parameter type, and a first value that indicates when the measured parameter value was measured; accessing a maintenance threshold value that specifies a performance limit for the parameter type; comparing the maintenance threshold value with the measured parameter value; and generating an alert based on the comparing to indicate that maintenance is needed for the component.
