A method and apparatus for compensating for third-order intermodulation (IM) distortion in a receiver by passing a received signal through a detector to obtain a second-order difference signal, combining the 2nd-order signal with the received signal in a multiplier to obtain a 3rd-order IM signal, adjusting a parameter such as amplitude, phase or quadrature amplitude of the 3rd-order IM signal, and coupling the 3rd-order IM signal into the received signal.

Abstract:
A Ytrium Iron Garnett (YIG) filter tuning system includes a YIG filter having a filter passband and associated filter bandwidth, a noise source selectively coupled to an input of the YIG filter, and a receiver coupled to an output of the YIG filter, the receiver having a measurement passband with an associated measurement bandwidth that is less than the filter bandwidth. The receiver acquires a series of measurements at the output of the YIG filter within the measurement passband and within the filter passband when the noise source is coupled to the input of the YIG filter.

Abstract:
A method is provided for performing a diagnostic test on a piece of equipment, the equipment including a plurality of components, each of the components including a diagnostic test result store. The method comprises executing a diagnostic test by means of a diagnostic apparatus embedded within the piece of equipment, determining, based on the results of the diagnostic test, that one of the components is diagnosed to be faulty, preparing a report of results of the diagnostic test within the diagnostic test store of the faulty component; and storing the report in a test report store on-board the diagnosed faulty component.
A visual tuning-aid system for aligning an electronic timepiece to a correct reference frequency is disclosed. A reference oscillator in the system provides a reference signal at a precisely fixed predetermined frequency which is, or is converted to, the correct alignment frequency for the timepiece. A sensor electrostatically detects a time base signal in the timepiece and a bandpass amplifier removes any extraneous signals. The reference signal and the time base signal are provided to a phase shift indicating device of a multiphase motor in the system which provides a visual display, the movement of which is proportional to the rate of phase change between the reference signal and the time base signal. Alignment of the timepiece to the correct frequency stops the phase change and thereupon the visual display stops moving.
Resonator For Coupling Intermediate Frequency Signals From A Radio Frequency Mixer
A dumbbell shaped resonator efficiently couples IF signals from short transmission lines to an output transmission line at a radio frequency (RF) mixer's IF output port. The RF mixer uses short transmission lines and terminating resistors to match impedances within the mixer and to minimize the mixer's distortion. The RF mixer, including the dumbbell resonator, is constructed on a printed circuit board and has a low manufacturing cost. Alternatively, the output transmission line is center-tapped to provide a pair of IF signals having opposite phases.

Abstract:
A wideband bandpass filter has a tank circuit connected between an input and output tapping circuit. The tank circuit contains a variable capacitor and an inductor in parallel. The tank circuit determines a center frequency for the bandpass filter. The input tapping circuit has an input variable impedance, and the output tapping circuit has an output variable impedance. The input and output variable impedances determine the continuously variable bandwidth of the filter.
