Abstract:
A computer system receives a request from a client computer system for data that is to be presented to a user, accesses a portion of the requested data and determines the encoded bit rate from the accessed portion of requested data. Based on the encoded bit rate for the requested data, the computer system determines an initial amount of data that is to be transferred to the client computer system to enable prompt access to that portion of data and determines the transfer rate for transferring the remaining data to the client computer system. The transfer rate for the remaining data is lower than the transfer rate for the initial amount. The computer system transfers the initial amount of data to the client computer system and transfers the remainder of the requested data to the client computer system at the determined lower transfer rate, subsequent to transferring the initial amount.

Abstract:
Methods and computing systems for tunneling in a carrier transport network are described. An Internet Protocol (IP) packet having a destination IP address of a destination cellular site of a cellular cluster is received. A frame is formed with the IP packet placed into a payload portion of the frame. An outer Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) tag that identifies a network of the cellular cluster to a first carrier network is added to the frame, and an inner VLAN tag that identifies the network of the cellular cluster to a second carrier is added. The first carrier network and the second carrier network are coupled via at least one network-to-network interface. The frame, including the IP packet, is forwarded to a provider edge switch of the first carrier network.

Abstract:
Methods and computing systems for allocating an information rate to a particular traffic type of a plurality of traffic types of egress traffic is described. A state of the particular traffic type for a particular time slot of a current time period is determined. This includes determining the information rate such that a loss probability threshold is not exceeded, based on historical data of the particular traffic type. The historical data includes a plurality of observed throughput rates of the particular traffic type during a plurality of previous time periods at which the particular traffic type experienced the state of the particular traffic type. The information rate (e.g., a committed information rate) is allocated to the particular traffic type for the particular time slot.

Abstract:
Methods and computing systems for determining a committed information rate for a plurality of cell sites are described. Data associated with throughput of combined voice and data traffic communicated between a core network and the plurality of cellular sites is received. An oversubscription ratio for the committed information rate is determined based on a predetermined service outage threshold and a plurality of peak throughput values of the combined voice and data traffic over a plurality of time periods. An oversubscribed committed information rate for the plurality of cellular sites is determined based on the oversubscription ratio.

Abstract:
Disclosed herein are techniques for measuring inter-domain handoff performance between network devices in different network domains. A peer-based handoff performance measurement process may include generating test data to be transmitted from a first edge device of a first network domain over an interface to a second edge device of a second network domain, the test data having an identifier (ID) to indicate that the test data is to be used for measuring handoff performance over the interface. The first edge device may add a start time to the test data indicating a start of a measurement instance using the test data, transmit the test data to the second edge device over the interface, receive the test data with a receive time added by the second edge device, and store at least the start time and the receive time as handoff performance data.

Abstract:
A provider equipment having a backhaul resiliency module operable to determine multiple, alternative communication paths in a backhaul portion of a telecommunication network and then compare the different, alternative communication paths, based on their respective backhaul component reuse, to identify one or more resilient communication paths as options for a particular backhaul communication. The provider equipment can then select a preferred resilient communication path for either an uplink or a downlink of the backhaul network. Each of the alternative communication paths can correspond to a unique combination of Carrier Ethernet nodes and links that connect pairs of provider equipment devices located on opposing sides of a Carrier Ethernet, such as on a RAN side, an MSO side, or another Network side of the telecommunication network).
