Abstract:
A magnetic field modulation system for a cochlear implant: The magnetic field modulation system receives audible tones and processes the tones into radio frequency signals that are received by a radio frequency coil system. The radio frequency coil system has a transmitting coil and a receiving coil wound in a plurality of configurations. The transmitting coil is implanted in the ear canal wherein it receives processed radio frequency signals. The receiving coil is implanted into the middle ear wherein it receives the radio frequency signals from the transmitting coil. The receiving coil is hermetically sealed inside an enclosure wherein it receives and demodulates the radio frequency signal. Audio electrical signals are extracted from the demodulated radio frequency signal and delivered to the cochlea via an electrode. The audio electrical signals are received by the human brain via the nerves from the cochlea.

Abstract:
A bulk fluid dispensing system that can detect when priming has occurred is provided. The system can prime itself so as to remove e.g., air gaps that might affect the metering of a proper amount of a fluid such as laundry detergent or fabric softener into a wash chamber or wash bin of the appliance. A pressure sensor can be used to determine when such priming has occurred. Other features can be provided as well.
Detecting Mechanical Decoupling In A Laundry Appliance
- Wilmington DE, US Byron Lee Boylston - Louisville KY, US
International Classification:
D06F 37/30 D06F 37/42 D06F 58/28 D06F 33/02
Abstract:
A method of detecting a mechanical decoupling in a laundry appliance is provided. The laundry appliance includes a rotatable basket and a motor configured to drive the rotatable basket. The method includes determining a target rotational speed and activating the motor at a first rotational speed proportional to the determined target rotational speed. The method further includes determining an actual rotational speed after activating the motor at the first rotational speed and comparing the actual rotational speed to the target rotational speed. When the actual rotational speed is greater than the target rotational speed, the method determines that the motor is decoupled from the basket.

Abstract:
A washing machine appliance and a method for operating a washing machine appliance are provided. The method includes monitoring a flow rate of fluid additive with a flow meter and measuring a volume of fluid additive dispensed after the flow rate of fluid additive substantially decreases. The method can assist with accurately and/or precisely dispensing fluid additive during operating of the washing machine appliance.

Abstract:
A hearing assistance device for use with respect to a mastoid cavity and an ear canal with a tympanic membrane, external ear canal bone, incudo-stapedial joint of an ossicular chain and a cochlea having a round window membrane. The device includes a removable unit with a microphone to convert a received sound into electrical sound signals, and includes a digital audio signal processor to process the electrical sound signals into envelopes of the electrical sound signals, and includes an infrared transmitter to transmit the envelopes of sound signals as packages of infrared light pulses. The hearing assistance device also includes an implant unit with a photovoltaic cell to receive the packages of light pulses and demodulate the packages of light pulses into electrical signals, and at least one active electrode that delivers the demodulated electrical signals to the cochlea.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for safely powering an appliance user interface without external power are provided. One exemplary method includes receiving power generated by rotation of a rotor. The method further includes monitoring for the presence of a safety condition and disabling passive braking of the rotor when the safety condition is present such that the user interface of an appliance is powered. An exemplary washing machine can include a basket and a motor which includes a rotor, the motor being configured to rotate the basket by rotating the rotor. The washing machine can further include a user interface and a motor control circuit configured to drive the motor. The motor control circuit can be further configured to receive power generated by rotation of the rotor, monitor for the presence of a safety condition, and disable passive braking of the rotor when the safety condition is present.
