Abstract:

An installation and maintenance method for maintaining a control module for remote starter and alarm system for vehicles includes the steps of plugging in a signal converter onto the control module, establishing an electronic connection between the control module and a first information processing device, obtaining a control information for the control module, and applying the control information on the control module. The signal converter includes a serial to wireless converter and the first information processing device includes a personal digital assistant (PDA). The method can further includes the steps of establishing a connection between the first information processing device and a second information processing device through a communication network and downloading an information from the second information processing device. A remote installation and maintenance system includes an information processing device, a communication network, and a server. The system installs and maintains the control module of the system.

Abstract:

A safety system and method for a manual transmission vehicle with a remote starter is provided. The system includes a motion transducer module detecting motion of the vehicle and a controller module deciding erroneous starting of the vehicle and stopping the vehicle when erroneous starting is decided. The controller module receives motion data from the motion transducer module. A baseline is set in the detected motion data, and the controller module calculates number of baseline crossings that occur within a predetermined time frame in the motion data. The controller module decides erroneous starting based on the number of baseline crossings. The controller module adjusts the baseline based on averaged motion data from the motion transducer module when the remote starter is inactive.

Abstract:

A system for regulating the operation of an idling motor vehicle monitors one or more selected engine operational parameters such as coolant temperature, exhaust gas temperature. and catalytic converter temperature, and compares the measured parameters against selected benchmark criteria stored in the memory of a microprocessor. The microprocessor controls the vehicle's ignition system to shut down the engine when the measured parameters come within the corresponding benchmark criteria. The system preferably but not necessarily operates in conjunction with a remote vehicle starter system. The system may also or alternatively be adapted to shut down an idling motor vehicle engine when total idling time reaches a specified maximum value, which may be selected based on idling time restriction bylaws. Accordingly, the system promotes reduced fuel consumption and mitigates environmental impacts by automatically regulating vehicle idling times, while also facilitating avoidance of idling time restriction bylaw violations.

Abstract:

A self-contained electromagnetic impact sensor includes a frame, a fixed permanent magnet, a fixed coil, and a metallic body elastically mounted for movement within the frame. An impact received by the sensor imparts motion to the metallic body, thereby altering the pattern of magnetic flux extending from the permanent magnet and through the coil. An electrical signal is produced within the coil, which is processed and compared to one or more threshold levels to drive one or more corresponding output triggers.
