Abstract:
A hearing aid retention and extraction device comprises a retention ring having an outer bonding surface and an inner grasping surface, and an elongate member extending from the retention ring. The retention and extraction device can be incorporated into a hearing device tip and allows both a hearing device and the hearing device tip to be simultaneously removed from an ear canal. When a user pulls on the elongate member, the retention ring cinches around the hearing device and prevents it from becoming separated from the hearing device tip. The cinching action of the retention ring also holds the hearing device in place within the ear canal.

Abstract:
A circuit board assembly for a hearing device comprises a substrate including a component mounting region that can be folded into a desired orientation. A circuit board assembly constructed in accordance with the present invention can preferably be folded without affecting the performance characteristics of the substrate or any of the components mounted to the substrate. In a preferred embodiment a circuit board assembly constructed in accordance with the present invention comprises a first component mounting region adapted to receive a hearing device microphone, a second component mounting region adapted to receive an electronic circuit and a circuit capacitor, a third component mounting region adapted to receive a contact pad, and a fourth component mounting region adapted to receive a programming pad. When folded in accordance with a preferred configuration, the flexible circuit board assembly can be readily inserted into a hearing device housing.
Method For Fitting A Universal Hearing Device Shell And Conformal Tip In An Ear Canal
A method for fitting a hearing device in an ear canal, comprises, providing a receiver module sized and shaped to fit in any of a wide range of ear canals, selecting a conformal tip from a plurality of differently sized conformal tips, each conformal tip of the plurality having an inside circumference adapted to engage the same size receiver module, wherein the selected conformal tip has an outside circumference slightly larger than the circumference of the ear canal, engaging the receiver module within the selected conformal tip, and inserting the selected conformal tip and engaged receiver module into the ear canal.

Abstract:
A septum is disclosed that can be utilized in a catheter assembly to selectively seal an opening in the catheter assembly. The septum has a tube portion and a plug portion. The plug portion has a slit extending through it. The septum can transition from a non-collapsed state to a collapsed state. When the septum is in a non-collapsed state, the plug portion is offset from the tube portion such that some of the length of the slit extends outward from the distal end of the tube portion. When the septum transitions to the collapsed state, the plug portion is moved inward into the internal cavity such that some of the length of the slit may or may not extend outward from the distal end of the tube portion.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a disk drive having a linear actuator for carrying read/write heads into engagement with a recording medium. The heads are mounted on a carriage assembly along with a voice coil motor for driving the carriage assembly into and out of engagement of the heads with the medium. The carriage assembly slides linearly on a central guide track. A flexure is provided for the central guide track for linear movement by the carriage assembly so that initial linear movement of the carriage assembly is by flexing the flexure and further, larger linear movement of the carriage assembly is by sliding along the guide track. In one form of the invention the central guide track is suspended at the front end by a flexure and at the rear end by a bearing. In another form of the invention the central guide track is suspended at each end by a flexure. The flexure has an attaching mechanism for attaching the flexure to the central guide track so that the flexure pivots freely on the central guide track.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a shipping cartridge for inserting into a disk drive. This shipping cartridge can be inserted into the disk drive for protecting the disk drive during movement or handling of the disk drive. When inserted into the disk drive, the shipping cartridge transmits forces applied to the disk drive away from the relatively fragile components of the disk drive and towards the relatively sturdy components of the disk drive. In a preferred embodiment, the shipping cartridge transmits the load to the relatively sturdy chassis of the disk drive. The shipping cartridge may have a surface that generally conforms to the chassis of the disk drive so that the cartridge can rest on the chassis. For example, the shipping cartridge may have apertures that can receive protrusions extending from the chassis.
