PhD, Biomedical and Biological SciencesMy research achievements: Designed and implemented experiments with clinical relevance to obesity and diabetes/hypoglycemia: 1) developed a cellular model to examine hypothalamic glucose sensing mechanisms; 2) generated ovariectomized mouse models to examine mechanisms mediating metabolic effects of estradiol; 3) employed primary hippocampal culture to examine effects of glucose deprivation on neuronal growth and death. Major techniques: cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, quantitative real-time PCR, multiplex transcription factor assay (Luminex), cell- or lysate-based microplate assays, cytotoxicity assay, ELISA, DNA microarray, siRNA/plasmid transfection, reporter assays (GFP, luciferase), western blotting; ovariectomy and implantation, glucose tolerance test, insulin-induced hypoglycemia, blood and tissue extraction, brain sectioning, hormone assays; hematopoietic stem cell culture and flow cytometry; hippocampal primary culture and immunocytochemistry/fluorescence microscopy Chinese Academy of Sciences
