Abstract:Methods and apparatus are described for forward baseband digitalization. A method includes receiving a forward baseband digital optical signal from an optical fiber; transforming the forward baseband digital optical signal to a forward analog electrical signal; transmitting the forward analog electrical signal on an electrical conductor; receiving a reverse analog electrical signal on the electrical conductor; transforming the reverse analog electrical signal to a reverse digital baseband optical signal; and transmitting the reverse digital baseband optical signal. An apparatus includes a forward baseband digital optical signal receiver; a forward circuit coupled to the forward baseband digital optical signal receiver, the forward circuit transforming a forward baseband digital optical signal to a forward analog electrical signal; a forward analog electrical signal transmitter coupled to the forward circuit; a reverse analog electrical signal receiver; a reverse circuit coupled to the reverse analog electrical signal receiver, the reverse circuit transforming a reverse analog electrical signal to a reverse digital baseband optical signal; and a reverse baseband digital transmitter coupled to the reverse circuit.

Abstract:A method for updating at a bridge node a virtual local area network (VLAN) status of a first node in a mesh network as provided enables improved network connectivity. The method includes processing a first VLAN status message that associates a first VLAN identifier with the first node, wherein the first VLAN status message was generated in response to a first bind request (BREQ) message. A second VLAN status message is then transmitted, wherein the second VLAN status message associates the first VLAN identifier with the first node. A third VLAN status message that associates a second VLAN identifier with the first node is then processed, wherein the third VLAN status message was generated in response to a second bind request (BREQ) message that associated the second VLAN identifier with the first node, and whereby the VLAN status of the first node is updated.

Abstract:A method for proximity detection in a wireless communication network. A node attempts to determine the proximity of the closest neighboring node by transmitting a ranging request. Other nodes respond, and the first node to receive and respond to the request will have the shortest response time and thus will be the closest node. Exact ranges can be determined by applying Time-Of-Arrival (TOA) techniques to node response times. To further avoid collisions, one or more frames of the response messages can be same, making the multiple responses appear as multi-path. The group of responders can be narrowed and individual groups probed in a search pattern until the single nearest node is known or range of the nearest node is known. The ranging node may then use ordinary unicast mechanisms to probe this node, or begin scanning the groups again, or interleave the two mechanisms as desired.

Preferably, an access point is adapted to issue the message over the core network as an address resolution request for an address, in particular, an IP protocol address, of the user terminal which has changed its affiliation to that access point.

Abstract:A system and method for providing a mechanism for trans-medium address resolution on a network with at least one highly disconnected medium having multiple access points to other media. The system and method provides a “unique” media access control (MAC) address in address resolution protocol (ARP) for mobile nodes in an ad-hoc network, correctly identifying the optimum intelligent access point (IAP) for node communication where the optimum IAP changes more rapidly than traditional address updating may be able to accommodate. Medium layer routing protocols recognize medium frames addressed with this unique MAC address should be routed to the currently associated IAP, whichever IAP that might be at the moment the frame is sent.
