  • Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
  • International Classification:
    B41J002/01
  • US Classification:
    347101, 347103, 347 96
  • Abstract:
An apparatus for ink-jet printing including an ink-jet print head to jet ink, a coating solid, and a coating holder to support the coating solid, wherein the coating holder transfers a portion of the coating solid onto a medium to form a coating solid layer. The coating holder and coating solid may be combined in a removable cartridge. In addition, the medium may be an intermediate transfer medium, a media support medium, a transfer medium, or media, such as paper. A method for inkjet printing also includes applying a coating solid to a medium to form a layer of the coating solid, in a solid form, having predetermined thickness, and applying ink to the medium. The layer of coating solid may interact with the applied ink to destabilize colorant in the ink.

  • Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
  • International Classification:
    G03G 1500
    G03G 1520
  • US Classification:
    399 45
  • Abstract:
A printer has a media feed path (12) for feeding sheets of media (14), with the path having a side reference edge (52) for aligning the media. A media transport mechanism feeds the sheets of media at a standard speed and at a reduced speed. A narrow media detector (38) generates a narrow media signal when sheets of narrow media are fed through the media feed path. A controller (68) adjusts the media transport mechanism to feed the narrow media aligned with the reference edge at the reduced speed. A method of printing sheets of narrow media in a printer comprises the steps of aligning the narrow media with a reference edge in a media feed path of the printer, sensing when the narrow media are present in the media feed path, and feeding the narrow media through the media feed path at the reduced sheet feeding speed and, particularly with a belt fuser, with increased inter-sheet gap.

  • US Patent:
    57865710, Jul 28, 1998
  • Filed:
    May 9, 1997

  • Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
  • International Classification:
    H05B 102
  • US Classification:
    219494
  • Abstract:
The temperature of a heated roller (1) is monitored by a heat sensor (19) which rests on metal rectangle (25) on polyimide strip (5). The top end of the strip is attached directly to the frame (3). the bottom end of the strip has a hole (7), which receives an arm (9a) of pivoted member (9). A coil spring (13) pivots member 9 to cause arm 9a to pull the strip into contact with the heated roller. Because of the wide contact and low force between the strip and the roller, wear is reduced and smooth operation is realized.
